The islands most important pre season tournament begins on Thursday 19th August and will have four teams participating; U.D. Lanzarote, U.S. Yaiza and two sides from the third tier of Spanish football UD Tamaraceite and CD Mensajero.

UD Lanzarote line up in the 2009 San Ginés tournament.

The Arrecife Town Hall with Sports minister and ex UD Lanzarote official Roy González has organised this 52nd San Ginés tournament and all games will be played at Lanzarote´s home stadium in Arrecife.

THE GAMES ARE AS FOLLOWS:

Thursday 19th Aug at 8.30pm UD Lanzarote v US Yaiza

Friday 20th Aug at 8.30pm CD Mensajero v UD Tamaraceite

Saturday 21st Aug at 12 noon 3rd v 4th

Saturday 21st Aug at 7pm FINAL

All teams take this competition seriously as these will be some of the final pre season games before the league begins two weeks later. The two Segunda B clubs will be strong. UD Tamaraceite had a wonderful first season in Segunda B and was not far off the promotion positions for Segunda A (The Championship). CD Mensajero were promoted with ease last season and will be formidable. U.S. Yaiza has just returned to join UD Lanzarote in the Tercera Division (Fourth Tier) and as you can imagine will be eager to impress.

Tickets are available from the club with Davinia at Calle Isleño 4, Arrecife (just up from stadium, left at Sports Bar and 100m down on your left). Entrance to all four games costs 12 Euros and any individual match are 4 Euros. Please bring ID to the club and on match day. Tickets will be available from the club this Monday to Wednesday from 9am to 12 noon and Tuesday from 6-8pm.

I will also be able to reserve some tickets in the shop in Costa Teguise at CC Nautical, Local 25 (past Decades Bar and behind Café Bonjour). The opening times are Monday to Friday 10am to 1pm and also Wednesdays 5-7pm. I only have a limited amount of four match tickets at 12 Euros and unfortunately I do not have any individual tickets.

Due to Spanish law in public gatherings masks at the matches must still be worn and each person will be three seats distanced from the next person even if it is family. Children under 4 can enter free but must sit with their parent. Do bring your ID with you and also water as that won’t be available at the ground.

We feel confident as the season progresses that restrictions will be eased but please remember it is NOT the club who makes the rules but the club must abide by them.
