PREVIEW ON TOMORROWS VITAL GAME VERSUS UD LAS PALMAS C

The Rojillos enter in tomorrow’s match knowing that only a win will ensure that they will avoid the relegation playoffs and go into the promotion playoffs to qualify for Segunda B (Third Tier).

Up until Wednesday there were three teams chasing to avoid the relegation playoffs and only one side will have done that by around 2pm tomorrow. UD Villa Santa Brígida lost 3-2 away to UD Las Palmas C and even if Lanzarote lose tomorrow and Santa Brígida wIn their final match and ended on the same points as Lanzarote with a better goal difference, that will not count. The team who has done better against each other has the advantage and in this case Lanzarote drew 0-0 at home and won 0-1 away.

Fuerteventura side CD Unión Puerto are level on points with the Rojillos but Lanzarote won 4-1 at home then lost 2-1 away so have the advantage. If Lanzarote were to lose then a draw would see Unión Puerto leapfrog Lanzarote. Should the Rojillos draw then Unión Puerto would need a win. Lanzarote must equal whatever CD Unión Puerto do to avoid the dreaded relegation playoffs.

At the other end of the table the two top sides face each other, UD San Fernando are in pole position by a single point and are at home to CF P.P. San Mateo. San Mateo must win to become Champions. UD Las Palmas C are in third position and should the two top teams draw then they could finish second if they were to beat Lanzarote.

On how the Spanish football system works UD Las Palmas C cannot be promoted because there B side is in the league above. Should their B team be relegated from Segunda B (Third Tier) then Las Palmas C would automatically be relegated from this division as the two teams for obvious reasons cannot compete in the same league. One may think that they have little to play for but that is far from the situation as they showed midweek winning 3-2.

Their side is packed with junior talent who are all trying to make a living from the game. The Las Palmas scouts are constantly monitoring each player so they are out to impress and hopefully play for the Las Palmas first team who are in Segunda A (The Championship). Only a couple of seasons ago a young player by the name of Pedri played for their B team. He was sold by Las Palmas last season to Barcelona for 5 million Euros and is now a regular alongside Messi and Co.

This is also the first match in over a year that fans have been allowed into their home stadium to support their team. Due to the restrictions only around 200 fans will be at the match. Only people with tickets will be allowed entry so please do not turn up at the gate, the club also urges ticket holders to turn up at the time that is stated on the ticket. The club does ask everyone to comply with the rules set by the Cabildo (government) this is mainly that a mask is worn at all times and no eating or drinking in the stadium other than water.

The toilets are on the opposite side of where the current toilets are due to maintenance work being carried out. Only two people at a time are allowed. At the end of the match please wait for a steward to signal for you to leave as this will be done in sections.

The club asks all fans to observe a minute silence prior to kick off. This minutes silence is in honour of all the victims of Covid, also to allow our fans to pay their respect for the Godmother of Lanzarote Nina (raffle ticket lady) who died October 2020 and ex Rojillo player Fausto who died last April aged 68.

The match is being streamed live at 12 noon on  https://youtube.com/user/LanzaroteDeportivaTV and to buy a 5 euro ticket or 5 for 20 Euros for the online raffle please click on https://gofund.me/7d5eb7a6
