C.D. SANTA ÚRSULA 0 LANZAROTE 0, 11th January 2020,
The Rojillos began the second round of games with more draws than any other football team in all of Spain’s four tiers of football and in Tenerife they increased that to 12 draws out of the 20 matches that they have played.
This has not been a good season for the Rojillos but a point in this match was most definitely a good point as a loss would have seen the Tenerife side leapfrog Lanzarote in the table and possibly leave the Rojillos in the relegation positions.
The home side should have gone in front in the opening minute. A deep cross found striker Nauzet but his effort struck the post and he then made a mess of the rebound as the Lanzarote defence sighed a sense of relief.
For most of the first half Lanzarote was the better side but failed to convert their opportunities. Winger Alex Fuentes was denied by the Santa Úrsula keeper in the 8th minute then once again just before the break.
The home side did have a lot of the possession but it was the Rojillos that looked the more threatening. Once again it was Alex Fuentes who was denied by the superb Tenerife keeper Juanje.
The hosts came ever so close to stealing a win in the 88th minute when striker Pedro forced Rojillos keeper Alejandro into a good save but it was Lanzarote who finished the stronger. Sub Rami stretched the Tenerife defence on two occasions in the closing moments, once when a cross was just too long for striker Aday as he waited to pounce in the six yard box and in added time he pulled a ball back ready for fellow sub Hamza to blast home but a defender intercepted at the last moment.
It may be another draw but the performance from the Rojillos was promising and will give them hope for the battle ahead. Lanzarote remain in 15th spot and are just two points from the relegation positions and Santa Úrsula move out of the relegation positions into 16th position.
Next Sunday 19th January at 1.30pm Lanzarote face league leaders SD Tenisca. This is a home match but it has not been confirmed where Lanzarote will play this game. The club want to play the match at the stadium in Tias because the astro turf in Arrecife is extremely uneven and has been the cause of injuries to our players and also our opponents this season.
As soon as the venue is confirmed I will post on here and also Facebook Lanzarote football club. Our games are normally at 12 noon but when we play La Palma sides the time or day of the match does alter to accommodate their two flights that they need to arrive in Lanzarote.
