Just three weeks ago the Rojillos playoff hopes looked to have been dead and buried trailing that fourth and final playoff position by ten points. Then three wins on the bounce, two of which were against playoff rivals sees Lanzarote in 5th spot and just three points adrift with a game in hand.

Most fans would have taken a point against the fourth placed La Palma side so to keep in the hunt but to come home on the two flights from La Palma with all three points in the pocket puts the destiny of a playoff finish now firmly in their own hands.

The Rojillos playing in their third kit of pink as a mark of respect for International Woman’s day.

The home side were the first to threaten with an effort in the 7th minute which flew over the crossbar however as the game progressed Lanzarote began to take control.

In the 26th minute Captain Ayoze Pérez made a good run down the right and pulled the ball back to striker Rosmen, the 36 year old who had retired at the end of last season but was asked to come back in January made no mistake thumping the ball home for his third goal in two games and giving his side an important 0-1 lead.

Only three minutes later and the Rojillos doubled their lead. Striker Alex Cruz cut inside and planted his shot into the far corner and Lanzarote were 0-2 to the good.

To finish off a memorable first half Borja finished off with a volley following some quick team play to send his side into the half time break with an astonishing 0-3 lead.

Instructions were simple in the second half and that was to shut up shop. The Rojillos controlled most of the second period with an organised display however the hosts did pull a goal back in the 81st minute but it proved to be a small consolation as Lanzarote comfortably ran out 1-3 winners.

Lanzarote played in their pink strip as a mark of respect for International Woman’s Day. This is the second time that they have played in their third strip and have won on both occasions. Viva Las Rosas! (Long Live the Pinkies).

The Rojillos will be playing the rearranged fixture versus mid table side CD Buzanada this forthcoming Wednesday in Tenerife and this will be followed by a home match on Saturday 17th March at 6pm versus UD Los Llanos.

This game was due to be played on Sunday however the Spanish Football Federation had to change this to a Saturday because of the two flights the La Palma side needs to arrive on the island. The club apologises for any inconvenience but unfortunately it is out of their hands.

Fellow Lanzarote side Yaiza earned a good away 2-2 draw versus league leaders UD San Fernando but do remain in 10th spot and ten points adrift of the playoffs. Haría lost at home 1-3 versus CD Santa Úrsula and are rooted to the bottom, a full 12 points from safety.
