U.D LAS PALMAS C 2-2 U.D LANZAROTE
UD LAS PALMAS C 2 UD LANZAROTE 2, 16th September 2017,
Four minutes into added on time and Rojillos striker Trujillo scores his second goal of the game to earn his side a valuable away point against one of the league’s top sides which also keeps Lanzarote in fifth spot.
In the first half both sides had great opportunities to take the lead. Las Palmas went close in the first minute with striker Eduardo just clearing the crossbar with a long range effort.
Alex Cruz and Miguel Gómez who was returning to his old club also came close for the Rojillos. The second placed side also had an effort well saved by keeper Sasha in the 28th minute and as half time approached it seemed the sides would be on level terms at the break, however in the 42nd minute a free kick from captain Ayoze Pérez on the right was powerfully headed high into the top right hand corner from the inform striker Trujillo to give the Rojillos a 0-1 half time lead.
The youthful Las Palmas side came out for the second half with the intention of getting back on level terms quickly. It wasn’t until midway through the second period when Lanzarote centre back Kamara clearly brought down sub Joel to earn Las Palmas a penalty kick.
Midfielder Kirian made no mistake with the spot kick to bring Las Palmas back level and make the score one apiece.
The home side thought they had secured all three points when Eduardo scored in the 86th minute after seeing his strike rebound off the post then hitting the Lanzarote keeper and ending up in the net to give the Gran Canarian side a 2-1 advantage with just a few minutes left on the clock.
The Rojillos never gave up and kept pressing. Deep into added on time an out swinging dipping corner kick from new boy Castaño was met with a powerful header by Josito from the edge of the six yard box, the keeper could only palm the ball away and Trujillo was first to react heading the ball into the net to score his fourth goal of the season and more importantly earning his side a well deserved point as well as sending the Lanzarote travelling fans and those based in Las Palmas wild with joy.
The other two local clubs had a mixed day. CF Haria won their first game this season 1-0 at home to CD Cotillo and move out of the relegation positions whilst U.S. Yaiza had a disastrous day in Tenerife against UD Ibarra getting hammered 5-0 and replaced Haria in the relegation positions.
Lanzarote´s next home match has been confirmed for this Sunday 24th September at 12 noon versus second placed side CD Tenerife B.
