U.D VILLA SANTA BRÍGIDA 0-2 U.D LANZAROTE

UD VILLA SANTA BRÍGIDA   0   LANZAROTE   2,   3rd September 2017,

The cover photo shows how important this victory in Gran Canaria is against one of the league’s top sides. Morale is high as the Rojillos move up to fifth spot after their second successive win.

Starting XI.

Last season’s third placed side enjoyed the majority of possession in the first half though Lanzarote defended well and there was rarely any case of concern.

Stand in keeper 18 yr old Frenchman Sasha Roche was again impressive commanding his area and at times seemed to play more of a sweeper role with excellent footwork which installed confidence throughout the team. The youngster also pulled off a terrific save late on ensuring he kept his second clean sheet in just his second match in the Tercera Division. If he carries on like this resident keeper Alejandro will find it difficult to force his way back into the team once he recovers from injury.

The Rojillos soaked up the pressure in the first half and then hit their opponents where it hurts on the stroke of half time. A ball played through the middle by midfielder Borja released Alex Cruz and with just the keeper to beat calmly placed the ball into the bottom left hand corner to send Lanzarote into the break with a 0-1 lead.

The home side upped their tempo at the beginning of the second half but the wind was knocked out of their sails in the 57th minute when midfielder Godoy picked up his second yellow card for continuous fouls and just to make sure he was sent off he began mouthing abuse at the Ref who had the simple job of ordering him off the park.

Lanzarote dominated against the 10 men and 10 minutes after the sending off wrapped the game up with a superb team move resulting in the impressive Josito crossing an inch perfect pass from the left to the back post and striker Javi Trujillo nodded home to give his side breathing space with a 0-2 lead.

Great new signing attacking left back Josito.

The Gran Canarian side tried to respond but Lanzarote comfortably saw out the remainder of the game to make it six points out of three games.

Prior to the match both teams observed a minutes silence for the untimely death of Yaiza´s vice president Ángel Cabrera who suffered a fatal heart attack whilst on his farm in Lanzarote on the Saturday evening.

Yaiza were due to play a home match against Fuerteventura side CF Unión Puerto on Sunday but both clubs agreed to suspend the match. Our deepest sympathies go out to his family and all involved with Yaiza football club over this shocking news.

Fellow Lanzarote club Haría lost at home 1-4 to San Fernando. The visitors were 0-2 up at the break but the Northerners came out strong for the second period and pulled a goal back in the 55th minute. In the same minute they were reduced to 10 men and 12 minutes later again picked up another red card to only have just nine players with 23 minutes remaining. The Gran Canarian side scored two injury time goals to leave Haría with just one point after their opening three matches.

Each team in the league has one rest week and for Lanzarote that is next Sunday. The next home game is scheduled for Wednesday 13th September versus CF Unión Puerto. The time for this match has yet to be confirmed but will more than likely be at 5pm (Please Check). As always I will confirm date and time at the top of this page and on Facebook Lanzarote football club nearer to the match.
