SD TENISCA 2 LANZAROTE 1

SD TENISCA   2   LANZAROTE   1,   20th August 2017,

New manager Maxi Barrera´s first match in charge on the opening game of the season ended in defeat.

Typical of football, the Rojillos old manager for the past five seasons Adolfo Pérez is now SD Tenisca manager and ex Lanzarote player Mauri scored their second goal.

A few of Lanzarote´s fans who made the difficult journey to La Palma.

The La Palma side enjoyed the majority of the possession in the opening 20 minutes but rarely threatened the Rojillos back four, though in the 23rd minute striker Victor Rodriguez was sent clear and from just eight yards he stroked the ball wide of keeper Alejandro putting the ball into the bottom right hand corner to give his side a 1-0 lead.

Adolfo Pérez´s men continued to dominate for the remainder of the half and should have extended their lead when striker Sota spurned a great opportunity just before the interval.

The locals didn’t waste any time improving on their lead because just two minutes after the break ex Rojillo and old fan favourite Mauri found himself with a clear view at goal. The always seems happy Colombian feigned his strike perfectly committing keeper Alejandro then simply slotted the ball home at the near post to put his new team 2-0 up.

Rojillo old boy Mauri scored Tenisca´s second.

Maxi Barerra then immediately introduced strikers Javi Melian and Alex Cruz then 15 minutes later took one last gamble introducing striker Rami.

His gamble paid off when in the 69th minute an inch perfect 35 yard pass from Josito was neatly chested down by Rami who then thundered his half volley from eight yards into the roof of the net to make the score 2-1 and to give the Rojillos hope.

Lanzarote had their chances to steal a point especially when Javi Melian blasted over the bar from close range but even with the added six minutes of injury time the visitors could not find a way through.

This is not the result we were hoping for but Tenisca will be one of the leading sides this season. If defeat wasn’t enough for Lanzarote, the players had to endure a further three flights to get home, La Palma to Tenerife, Tenerife to Gran Canaria and then finally home.

Fellow local side and making their debut in this division are CF Haría, they played their opening match on the Saturday at home to last season’s relegated side from Segunda B (League 1) CD Mensajero. They gave a good account of themselves but nevertheless went down 1-2.

The third and final local Lanzarote side in this division is U.S Yaiza. They played at home on Sunday to a good UD Villa Santa Brígida side and after going a goal down they scored two second half goals to claim all three points.

Next Sunday 27th August at 12 noon it is the first home game of the season for the Rojillos and they will face a buoyant Yaiza side. Many players on both teams will have points to prove so all the ingredients are there for a terrific derby match.
