Nothing has gone right for Lanzarote this season and currently they are on their worst run for years having lost their last five matches. The good news is that there is only one more game to go.

Previous derby matches in Yaiza have been disappointing but this game began at a good pace despite the scorching heat.

Lanzarote began the game the sharper of the two sides and in the 8th minute a corner from the right by Borja was headed into the net at the far post by midfielder Javi Betancort to give the Rojillos a 0-1 lead.

As good as it got.

Three minutes later and the frailties of the Lanzarote defence were once again exposed. A ball through the middle of the Lanzarote defence was latched onto by Miguel Yunes. As the Rojillo defence appealed for offside striker Miguel Yunes calmly slotted the ball into the right hand corner past keeper Alejandro to level the score at 1-1.

In the 25th minute a seemingly routine free kick was not cleared and whilst the Lanzarote defence stood still Yaiza central defender Kamara was having none of that and rifled his shot from the penalty spot into the roof of the net to give his side a 2-1 lead.

Whilst both sides played good football for the remainder of the half with equal possession it was Yaiza who came closest to scoring the next goal. Only a terrific save from Alejandro prevented Miguel Yunes scoring his second as Yaiza took a 2-1 lead into the break.

Early in the second half British boy Louis Kennedy worked a good move with Toñito which gave him an opportunity to strike at goal, from a narrow angle the 23 year old winger curled the ball low and wide of the Yaiza keeper but there was not enough curl on the ball to squeeze into the bottom left hand corner.

That was Lanzarote´s chance to get back into the game because after that the Rojillos fell apart. Two goals in the 78th and 84th minute for Alex Yunes and a deadly strike from 20 yards by Daní García a minute later just added to the Rojillos misery.

This victory pushes Yaiza up to fifth spot but they have no chance to finish in the top four to qualify for the playoffs. Lanzarote drop to 13th position.

Next Sunday 14th May at 12 noon Lanzarote are at home in their final game of the season versus sixth placed side CF Pulido San Mateo.
