C.D.COTILLO 1-1 U.D.LANZAROTE

CD EL COTILLO   1   LANZAROTE   1,     23rd October 2016,

Lanzarote are fast becoming the team know as the King of the draws as they have now drawn seven of their eleven matches played though not many Lanzarote fans will be complaining about their last two away draws, here against the team who began the day as league leaders and last week against the side that are now league leaders.

The Rojillos have slipped to 10th spot but are one of three teams who have lost just once this season and are still just three points off a playoff spot and a further point off top spot.

The club organised an excursion to the game and once again it proved to be outstanding value, just 20 Euros for residents and 35 Euros for non residents (cannot be the same price as non residents do not get the discount on the ferry). Players and supporters met at the stadium in Arrecife before picking up people in Playa Honda and filling up the 85 seater double decker bus in Puerto Del Carmen before making our way to Playa Blanca to catch the Armas ferry to Fuerteventura.

On arriving in Corralejo we rejoined the bus for the 30 minute ride to Cotillo. It was an hour in the bars before making our way to the ground. For that price the club even bought everyone a bocadillo (roll). Hopefully there will be another trip to Fuerteventura in January when we play Unión Puerto on the 8th January.

The first half played in baking sun was extremely competitive with much of the game being fought out in the midfield. The Majoreros (Fuerteventurians) had the first opportunity when a header from midfielder Héctor which was well saved by the returning Rojillos keeper Agoney. Lanzarote replied when stand in skipper Ayoze rounded the goalkeeper on the half hour but his effort was cleared off the line by a defender.

Lanzarote began to stamp their authority at the beginning of the second half but in the 50th minute a poor ball from the otherwise excellent Marcos Cabrera put fellow central midfielder Javi Betancort under pressure and he lost the ball in the centre.

Héctor picked up the pieces and from 25 yards let rip a cracker into the top right hand corner with the ball still rising as it settled into the net. Agoney tried a valiant dive but in truth he was a mile away from preventing the league leaders going 1-0 up.

Lanzarote dominated play and Javi Betancort and Ayoze both had chances to level the score. In the 80th minute Marcos Cabrera whipped in a delicious powerful dipping free kick from the left and defender Fran Gil from eight yards climbed well and used the power of the free kick to glance the ball looping over the keeper into the right hand corner of the net.  A superbly headed goal from a player who has just returned from injury which made the score 1-1.

Both sides fought out the remaining ten minutes or so looking for the winner with Lanzarote looking the more dangerous but in fairness a point for both sides was the correct result.

On the boat back home there was a great atmosphere with singing from both players and fans. As normal there was a raffle which aided to the atmosphere with great prizes been donated by Gallaghers Beach and Sports bar on the avenida in PDC (meal for two with drink) Café de la Plaza in Puerto Calero (High Tea for two including sandwiches, savouries, sweet treats and tea) The Laundry room in the Old Town in PDC (20 Euro voucher) amongst club shirts, scarves and many other prizes.

A huge thanks to all who donated and bought tickets. In all we raised 210 Euros which was greatly received by the club President Domingo Machín who personally asked me to thank everyone going on another successful away day trip.

Lanzarote´s next home match has been confirmed for this Sunday at 12 noon versus fourth placed side UD San Fernando (Gran Canaria)
