LANZAROTE 4 SD TENISCA 2

LANZAROTE   4   SD TENISCA   2,     4th Sep 2016,

The Rojillos gained their first win of the season in an incredible first half which saw five goals scored in an 18 minute period sending Lanzarote up to sixth spot in the table after three games.

The match was played two hours later than normal (2pm) as this was to assist the La Palma side with their connecting flights via Tenerife. At kick off the temperature was 30 degrees and climbing but this did not deter both sides playing good entertaining football.

The starting XI and a few helpers

With two draws in their opening two matches Adolfo Pérez´s men were under pressure to secure their first win of the season in front of their home crowd.

With the new signings of Dani López and Borja , the Rojillos manager is not short of attacking options alongside Rosmen and wingers Kennedy, Miguel Gómez and the suspended Toñito. I am sure there will be plenty of goals in this team this season.

The game began at a fast pace despite the ferocious heat with Rosmen just firing wide with a volley from 25 yards after three minutes.

In the 20th minute the La Palma side broke on a quick counter and with two Tenisca players free in the centre it was Borja who read the situation sprinting back to clear the danger.

The breakthrough came in the 24th minute. Rosmen controlled the ball on the edge of the six yard box and laid the ball back perfectly for Miguel Gómez. The midfielder angled his body and struck from the edge of the box placing his right foot shot with power into the top right hand corner hitting the underside of the bar and bouncing into the net.

This lad can hit a ball with either his left or right foot with power and accuracy. Last season Miguel was runner up for the player of the season but was let down with his four red cards, if he can control his temperament he will be the player to watch this season.

In the 31st minute defender Omar was free down the right wing and his half volley from eight yards was superbly saved by the Lanzarote keeper with an instinctive low one handed save at his near post.

It so easily could have been 1-1 but from the break it was 2-0 to Lanzarote. Rosmen crossed from the left and the pacy Dani López was brought down with a desperate late tackle inside the box and the Ref ordered a spot kick. The tall powerful figure of Lanzarote´s captain Rosmen rocketed the ball down the centre to give his side a 2-0 lead.

Just two minutes later and a defensive mix up allowed Rosmen to blast at goal from six yards, the keeper did well to get a hand on the ball but could only palm it into the corner of the net to give Rosmen his second  of the game and also give his team a 3-0 advantage.

The smiles are back

That three goal lead did not last 60 seconds. The old cliché in football “you are at your most vulnerable when you have just scored” is exactly what happened next and manager Adolfo Pérez would have lost more hair from his fading hairline because of his fragile defence.

Tenisca earned themselves a free kick directly after the restart and a simple chip over the top into the centre made a mockery of the Rojillo defence as midfielder Chema found himself unmarked and from six yards placed the ball wide of the Lanzarote keeper to reduce the deficit to 3-1.

Full marks to Lanzarote as they restored their three goal cushion in the 42nd minute. This goal could have come out of the British football manual. A long throw from the ever reliable defender Raúl was nodded on at the near post by Rosmen and Dani López completed the avalanche of goals in the first half nipping in at the back post and heading the ball home for his first Lanzarote goal.

Inevitably the pace dropped in the second period as the heat intensified. Hats off to all the foreign fans that came to see the match, when their beer was empty they left the comfort of the shaded stand and battled through the 60 yard walk in blistering sun to get their refill.

In the 62nd minute a free kick from Borja was dangerously whipped in from the right wing and probably the smallest player on the field Dani López rose majestically and powered in a header which he thought was his second of the match though the linesman raised his flag for a dubious offside decision.

Dani López thinking that he had scored his first goal but wrongly ruled out for offside

Keeper Agoney pulled off his traditional brilliant save in the 70th minute from a volley from just six yards pushing the ball onto the post and away for a corner.

With 14 minutes remaining the La Palma side were given a lifeline when defender Raúl was harshly penalised for a challenge on danger man Chema and the Ref signalled for a penalty. Chema dusted himself off the astro turf and sent Agoney the wrong way to make the score 4-2.

The visitors tried to rally but there was going to be no way back in this soaring heat. This was a great team performance and perhaps illustrates the importance of our captain Rosmen. He probably was not at his best today but scored two and was involved in the other two goals. He has now scored 101 goals in the Tercera Division for Lanzarote.

Two goals, two assists scoring his 100th and 101st goals for Lanzarote in the Tercera división. Not a bad example of a captains.

Next Saturday Lanzarote travel to Gran Canaria to face UD Telde. The hosts have yet to score a goal in their three games played but have only conceded one and are in the last relegation position with two points.
