Atlético Grandilla 0-4 U.D Lanzarote
C.D. ATLÉTICO GRANADILLA 0 LANZAROTE 4, 15th May 2016,
The Rojillos ended the league season with an emphatic win led by their captain Rosmen who bagged a hat-trick. This guarantees a second placed finish so Lanzarote will now have the advantage of playing a side that finished in fourth spot with the second leg to be played at home.
Lanzarote had many chances in the opening half hour to score with Mauri and Rosmen both coming close. The leagues bottom club already doomed to relegation did well defensively early on but could not keep the score goalless which could have given them hope for the second half.
The breakthrough came in the 39th minute when Miguel Gómez´s exquisite cross field pass released Toñito , the winger beat his defender and his pinpoint cross was headed home by the clubs leading scorer Rosmen to calm the nerves of his players with the 0-1 lead.
Lanzarote knew that a win in Tenerife for them would guarantee a second placed finish; failure of this would allow both Las Palmas B and SD Tenisca to leapfrog Lanzarote who could have finished the season fourth.
Now with a goal to the good Lanzarote could play more controlled football and seconds before half time doubled their lead when Toñito was tripped just inside the box and the ref had no hesitation in awarding a spot kick. Rosmen thrashed the ball down the middle to give the Rojillos a comfortable 0-2 lead to take into the break.
In the 68th minute Toñito picked the ball up on the left and beat his defender and fired wide of the Tenerife keeper to make the game safe with a 0-3 advantage.
Louis Kennedy came close to adding a fourth but his effort struck the woodwork however in the 77th minute Rosmen completed his hat-trick when he surprised the keeper with a powerful strike from the edge of the box to confirm the 0-4 rout.
Lanzarote finish the season in second spot with just three defeats all season and increasing their home supremacy now making it 40 league games without defeat.
As it panned out Las Palmas B could only draw and Yaiza did a great job on Tenisca in a 1-1 draw. Gran Canarian side UD Villa Santa Brígida are champions following a brilliant second half to the campaign and won by a mighty six point gap.
Lanzarote head into the playoffs and will find out who their opponents are with the draw taking place Monday at 4pm.
