S.D. TENISCA 0 LANZAROTE 0 6th March 2016,
Away in La Palma against the fourth placed side was always going to be difficult but a man of the match performance from Rojillos keeper Agoney ensured Lanzarote travelled home with a point.
After being top of the league for many weeks the Rojillos have dropped to third spot. Las Palmas B are league leaders and are in inspired form unbeaten in their last 13 outings including nine wins. Second placed side Villa Santa Brígida are also on the march and are level on top and a point ahead of Lanzarote following five wins on the bounce.
This Sunday 13th March at 12 noon is the big local derby match versus Yaiza. With a win Lanzarote could return to the top as all the other three title contenders face difficult away matches however our southern friends do not want to join the party and also have an outside hope of a playoff spot themselves and urgently need to reduce the 10 point gap for a top four finish with just 10 games remaining.
The game took place in conditions resembling a British winter with a drizzle continuing throughout the match though this did add speed to a competitive game.
The first good opportunity fell for the hosts when striker Diego forced one of many fine saves from the Lanzarote keeper. Just a few minutes later the same player again struck and Agoney produced another super save as he palmed the ball away onto the post and away for a corner.
The Rojillos defence was coping well with the pressure and possession that the La Palma side had and with Lanzarote´s front men Rosmen and Mauri always looking threatening on the counter attack the locals had to be on their guard.
Overall the hosts dominated the first period with their goalkeeper looking a very lonely person with little to do.
Tenisca remained dominant in the second period and fired on by their 500 fans came close on many occasions striking the woodwork twice and then having to face a keeper who is bang in form they could not find a way through.
Rojillos manager Adolfo Pérez will be proud of his battling defensive team and digging out a result. The players had to chase the game for most part of it and in these heavy ground conditions they all performed admirably.
Winger Toñito was left out of the squad as he has four yellow cards but will be in the squad this Sunday to face Yaiza.
