A superb defensive display earned Rojillos manager Adolfo Perez´s team a priceless point against a side in tremendous form and in third place in the league table.
The Rojillos back four and their rock solid goalkeeper Agoney are just getting better and better as the season matures. In their last 10 matches this defensive backbone of the team has just conceded three goals and on top of that they have also chipped in with some vital goals for their team.
The Gran Canarian side dominated possession from the start. Striker Trujillo had a clear opportunity in the opening minute but the Lanzarote keeper confidently saved his strike.
In the 15th minute defender Alex saw his header come off the crossbar for the home side as they mounted the pressure.
The only time the Rojillos threatened was late in the first period when midfielder Marcos Cabrera rifled in a goal bound shot from a free kick though a defender diverted the ball wide with a header.
The home side maintained possession in the second half and in the 65th minute Lanzarote keeper Agoney saved a fierce strike from a free kick by defender Carreño. Six minutes later and Agoney saved Lanzarote again palming the ball away from midfielder Nava´s effort at the far post.
The Santa Brigída goalkeeper was mostly a spectator as every time Lanzarote had the ball the locals pressed and won it back again to begin yet another attack.
Agoney saved fom Sub Santi´s strike from the edge of the area and fortunately for the visitors Trujillo put the rebound wide.
In the closing moments the locals increased the pressure but were just met with a solid brick wall of a Lanzarote defence. With five minutes remaining Agoney came to the rescue once more when he saved when Santi was clean through.
Lanzarote held on with gritted teeth maintaining their seven point advantage over the Gran Canarian side. Wins for the other three sides in the top five means that Lanzarote´s gap as league leaders has been reduced to four points with Las Palmas B in second spot following their 6-1 home win.
Next week Lanzarote could equal their record of 33 games without defeat on home soil. Standing between them and local football history is U.D. San Fernando. The Gran Canarian side have shot up the table in recent weeks and are in 6th position just five points from the playoffs.
