LANZAROTE 1 SD TENISCA 0

LANZAROTE   1   SD TENISCA   0, 18th October 2015

The new leaders of the Canarian Tercera division (Fourth Tier) are U.D. Lanzarote. The stats look fantastic. 26 games unbeaten at home and the only remaining side in the league not to have tasted defeat this season.

This may not have been a master class performance but grinding out a result in such circumstances is what teams who win championships do.

To the annoyance of many, Lanzarote had to change the kick off time and date twice and because of this there were many fans that were unable to see the game. Perhaps it might be advisable for our La Palma friends to book a little in advance when needing a flight here as this is not the only time this has happened. Tenisca need two flights to get to Lanzarote and the match was brought forward as there were no seats left on the Sunday flight.

The Rojillos dominated the early stages though it was the visitors who had the first chance in the 12th minute when a corner was floated in deep and midfielder Jordan hit a volley which rattled the side netting.

Five minutes later and Toñito latched onto a pass and hit a powerful volley from a narrow angle which produced a fine diving save from the La Palma goalkeeper Aáron.  The Rojillos were now well on top and in the 28th minute Kennedy found himself with space and unleashed a good effort from 20 yards that narrowly missed the left hand post. Two minutes later and Captain Rosmen forced the keeper into another good save with a left foot strike from just outside the box.

On a rare attack for Tenisca striker Piti blasted a shot from six yards but the Lanzarote keeper Agoney got his angles right and stood tall blocking the striker’s effort.

In the 40th minute Oscar Vladimir who had scored an absolute cracker a fortnight earlier once again let rip from 25 yards. One began thinking he has done it again but the ball rocketed off the woodwork with his strike hitting the meat of between crossbar and post.

The Rojillos owned possession at the beginning of the second half but lacked the ideas to breakthrough a stubborn and annoying La Palma defence.

Twenty minutes into the second period and Lanzarote began to up the tempo. A free kick from Marcos Cabrera was floated in from the left wing and eluded everyone with the ball coming off the woodwork for a second time in the match with defender Fran Gil inches away from a touch which would have secured a goal.

With 15 minutes remaining Lanzarote´s midfield were winning everything and on one of these occasions Vladi won the ball and sent striker Mauri on his way. The Colombian who had had a quiet afternoon beat his defender and pulled the ball back from the by-line to Marcos Cabrera, the ball seemed to get trapped under his feet but he managed to gift a pass to the oncoming Toñito but from eight yards Toñito got his shot all wrong and once again the La Palma side got let off the hook.

Eleven minutes from time Toñito split the visitors defence with a one two and was clearly bundled over in the box and the Ref had no hesitation in ordering a spot kick.

Rosmen who had just become a father for the first time a week earlier rifled the ball into the roof of the net giving the keeper no chance and began the traditional baby celebrations.

Tenisca didn’t offer a great deal in the remaining 10 minutes and even though this was not the most entertaining match Lanzarote have played this season they fully deserved the win and with Las Palmas B drawing their match it means Lanzarote now lead the way at the top of the league.

With the nine matches now played the Rojillos have won six and drawn the other three. Next week is an away match but it is the big Derby game on Lanzarote versus Yaiza.

I am sure there will be a great turnout for this match but it is still pay on the gate. The game is scheduled for Saturday 24th Oct at 16.45 (4.45pm please check later in week) at the Yaiza stadium as the relaying of their pitch is now complete.

There was talk of a bus organised by the club for this match but that won’t be happening. Hopefully the club will be organising a trip to Fuerteventura on the 8th November when we face CD Cotillo.
