The weekend could hardly have been better for the Rojillos, coming from behind to snatch the win and with all the other teams at the top dropping points Lanzarote have moved from fourth and nipped into second spot in the table.

Travelling to Tenerife without three of their regular starters, Rosmen (wife just had first baby), Mauri (suspension) and Brad Cockerill (injury) was not the ideal preparation however this season it does go to show what depth this squad has.

The Tenerife side only two seasons ago were playing in the Segunda B (League 1) and only last season missed out on promotion in the playoffs have had a dreadful start to this season’s campaign. They are sitting just one position off the relegation places having had most of their team and management abandon them this season. They now have a very young squad which includes one youngster from the Middlesbrough academy left back Bradley Mills.

Even with all this negativity they looked the more dangerous of the two sides in the first half and only a fine save by the Lanzarote keeper Agoney from striker Sandro prevented the hosts from taking a 25th minute lead. Lanzarote replied with a great cross from Kennedy which found Echedey only for his strike to be well saved by the Tenerife keeper.

On the half hour it was the home side that went in front following a super strike from midfielder Coly who left the Lanzarote number one with no chance.

As the old cliché goes you are at your most vulnerable when you have just scored and this certainly applied to this inexperienced Marino side. Only one minute after going 1-0 up Lanzarote was level. British boy Louis Kennedy who has been in great form of late set up new signing Javi Melián and the ex Yaiza player buried his opportunity on his first start for the Rojillos to pull the score back to 1-1.
In the second half the home side had plenty of possession though Lanzarote were very well organised and were looking to capitalize on the break. In the 61st minute after several opportunities to score it was the other new boy Miguel Gómez who fired home to give Lanzarote a 1-2 lead.

Toñito had an opportunity to put the game beyond doubt late on but his strike came off the post. Lanzarote nearly came to regret that miss as in the dying moments defender Mendy headed over the bar when he was in a position to level the match.

After three consecutive draws Lanzarote have now won three on the bounce and have moved into second position just one point off league leaders Las Palmas B. Lanzarote had a great season last year however this season they are four points better off than that of last after eight matches played and are the only side in the league undefeated.

Next Sunday Lanzarote will be at home to face La Palma side SD Tenisca who are also in great form having won four of their last five matches however the Rojillos have gone 25 matches since defeat on home turf but will need to stay undefeated for a while yet as their record is 33 games without defeat which was in the mid 90´s. Due to flight times for the La Palma side this match will kick off on Sunday 18th October at 3.45pm.
