CD VERA 1 LANZAROTE 2

CD VERA   1   LANZAROTE   2         27th September 2015

The Rojillos still remain unbeaten after this terrific away win in Tenerife.  Lanzarote were down to ten men when new boy Miguel Gómez fired in to give his side all three points and move Lanzarote up to fourth spot.

Both teams played a good first half with each side having one good opportunity to take the lead. In the 6th minute a Miguel Gómez header forced the Tenerife goalkeeper into a good save and in the 23rd minute Tenerife midfielder Dani Muni hit the post from a headed effort following a corner.

CD Vera began the season terribly with two losses but there last three games they have picked up seven out of nine points and were playing some good football though lacked any promise in the final third.

Whilst the first period may have been entertaining the second half proved to be much better. In the 57th minute Louis Kennedy put through striker Mauri whose pace out did the home defence and from an acute angle slid the ball under the advancing keeper to give the Rojillos a 0-1 lead.

The home side brought on striker Oscar and it was his pass in the 64th minute that gifted striker Amray the equaliser.  Things got even more problematic for the visitors when striker Mauri was given a straight red card in the 72nd minute so Lanzarote were forced to play the final twenty minutes with ten men.

With ten minutes remaining Lanzarote were awarded a corner and following a rebound, Miguel Gómez stuck the ball home to shock the home side and give the Rojillos a 1-2 lead.

The Tenerife side had a great opportunity to level matters late on when goal scorer Amray  put through sub Oscar but fortunately for Lanzarote the striker missed the target and finally the Rojillos got their win after three consecutive draws.

There is not much of a surprise in the league table with the top four teams. Gran Canarian sides Villa Santa Brígida hold top spot and have only dropped points to Lanzarote whilst their big brothers Las Palmas B are in second with Tenerife side UD Ibarra in third. Lanzarote hold the final playoff spot with fourth position.

Lanzarote are at home next Sunday 4th October at 12 noon versus Tenerife B.  This fixture has often produced great games.
