LANZAROTE 5 REAL SPORTING SAN JOSÉ 1
LANZAROTE 5 REAL SPORTING SAN JOSÉ 1 23rd Aug 2015
The Rojillos began the season in 5 Star fashion comfortably defeating last season’s fourth placed side Real Sporting in a hot afternoon in Arrecife.
Prior to kick off a minute silence was observed for Lanzarote´s midfielder Brad Cockerill´s mother who has recently passed away. The 19 year old British boy scattered some of his mother’s ashes on the turf with support from all his team mates.
Lanzarote began the more dominant but were restricted to long range free kicks which were not troubling the keeper. Toñito and Marcos Cabrera were accurate but their efforts never had the potency to trouble the Gran Canarian side.
Nevertheless it was Lanzarote who were that yard quicker and if they were to be patient the rewards would come.
In the 38th minute a deep corner from the right was floated in, Centre back Fran Gil found himself unmarked though from a distance and a narrow angle managed to power in a terrific header which hit the underside of the bar. According to the linesman who had the best view in the stadium the ball had crossed the line to give the Rojillos their first goal of the season and a 1-0 lead to take into the half time break.
It just took five minutes into the second half to effectively end this match. In the 47th minute a great out swinging free kick from Toñito was met with the perfect of runs from new boy Miguel Gómez. The left back from Gran Canaria quite easily man of the match headed the ball into the top corner leaving the Gran Canarian keeper helpless as Lanzarote went 2-0 up.
Three minutes later and it was curtains for the visitors. A cross from Toñito was handled inside the area by defender Jonay. The Ref not only awarded the Rojillos a penalty but also gave the defender his second yellow card. Rosmen fired home and Lanzarote were 3-0 up and playing against only 10 men.
Four minutes from regulation time and a good team move with some great work from the Colombian striker Mauri allowed Toñito to get an easy tap in for a deserved goal. The visitors made full use of a defence that had just turned off for a moment when sub Lesther fired in a great effort from the edge of the box and he saw his strike go in off the woodwork to bring the score back to 4-1.
In the last action of the day Fran Gil who has just returned from Las Palmas profited from some good play by the hard working Mauri when he nodded home from close range to end the day with a superb 5-1 win and make it 22 games without defeat at home.
Though it is early in the season Lanzarote do look good in all departments. The youngsters from last season have improved and with new boys Fran Gil and Miguel Gómez have added class and strength. All this without Lanzarote´s two other top players Ángel Gil and Vladimir unavailable because of suspension.
Next Sunday Lanzarote will travel the short distance to Fuerteventura to meet the new boys to this league CD Unión Puerto. The club are hopefully arranging a trip including bus and ferry to the match so if you are interested get in touch.
