The last time the Rojillos tasted defeat was on the 19th November 2014 but here they were up against the leagues in form side whose last defeat was 10 games back on the 1st November.
The first half was quite poor with both sides showing each other a little too much respect. The only good opportunity fell to the Tenerife side in the 38th minute when the ball bounced loosely in the Rojillos danger zone but the ball was eventually scrambled away.
The home side upped the tempo in the second half whilst Lanzarote were a little stagnant. The winning goal arrived in the 74th minute when a good cross was met with a superb over head kick by Chilean Carlos. It took the defence and Lanzarote keeper by surprise and gave the Tenerife side a 1-0 lead.
The Rojillos normally fight back well and have scored late on many times this season but this was not one of those days as they did have possession but not once did they test the Tenerife keeper.
Lanzarote will want to bounce back from this lacklustre defeat and have the chance this Sunday 25th Jan at 12 noon versus mid table Gran Canarian side UD Telde. The Rojillos remain in pole position but the gap is just one point with their nearest rivals also having a game in hand.
