A goalless draw this may have ended but Rojillos manager Adolfo Peréz may feel a little aggrieved that his side were wrongly disallowed a goal for offside, had a huge appeal for a penalty turned down and a 35 yard free kick from British lad Brad Cockerill which was brilliantly saved by the Gran Canarian keeper.
It wasn’t until the half hour mark that this game burst into life. A free kick on the far left wing was swept in and was then flicked on into the path of Rosmen, the tall striker finished off with a volley firing the ball home. It was a close call but following the video replay the Lanzarote captain was unlucky not to have put his side in front.
The home side had equal possession to Lanzarote but were not causing the Lanzarote number one Agoney any problems as the half ended.
The second half began as the first half had with both teams not creating much. On the hour mark Lanzarote were reduced to ten men when midfielder Marcos Cabrera picked up his second yellow card.
This did seem to inspire the Rojillos as the defence remained solid and up front they were creating the better opportunities.
In the 73rd minute by far the most outstanding part of the game occurred. 18 year old Brad Cockerill stepped up for a direct free kick from at least 35 yards out. The midfielder hit the ball so sweet as it swerved heading towards the top corner, the Telde goalkeeper produced a superb one handed save preventing Brad scoring his first goal for Lanzarote. An outrageous piece of football from the new boy.
In the closing stages the other British player Louis Kennedy looked as though he was brought down in the six yard box but the Referee was well placed and decided no foul had taken place much to the annoyance of all the Lanzarote players and bench.
Nevertheless Lanzarote remain unbeaten and the defence looks good just conceding one goal in the three games played. The two British boys have started all three matches and both have looked impressive.
Next week the home match versus Unión Viera has been brought forward. It will be played on Saturday 13th and kick off is at 4.30pm
