LANZAROTE 3 CD EL COTILLO 1

LANZAROTE   3   CD EL COTILLO   1

6th December 2013

A goal down at half time, the Rojillos fight back with a second half wonder show with goals from British player Louis Kennedy, a thunderbolt from Raúl and a spot kick from Toñito which moves Lanzarote up to 10th spot.

Lanzarote looked nervous all throughout the opening period and didn’t seem to get any rhythm to their game which is understandable when they had only taken one point in their previous five games.

To be fair the Fuerteventura side did not look much better until the 23rd minute when Rojillos defender Ángel Gil got roasted down the left flank by the Cotillo winger Joropo who pulled the ball back beautifully for striker Pedrito to comfortably head home and give the visitors a 0-1 lead.

In the 38th minute midfielders Marcos Cabrera for Lanzarote and Maikel for El Cotillo both received red cards for a scuffle in the middle of the pitch. The visitors took their one goal advantage into the half time break.

Rojillos manager Adolfo Pérez knew that the Fuerteventura side were two places above his side in the league table but he also knew that CD El Cotillo side have not won an away match this season. His tactics by bringing on Toñito who has just returned from injury and the lively Echedey a minute into the second half were spot on.

Toñito loves having the ball at his feet and taking on opponents and he was giving the Fuerteventura defence a torrid time whilst Echedey seemed to give needed oil to a rusty Lanzarote midfield.

Nevertheless the visitors had a wonderful triple opportunity to double their score in the 50th minute. Lanzarote keeper Agoney produced a fine save then a goal bound shot was blocked on a last ditch tackle and the rebound was then blasted at the goal again only for Lanzarote defender Adrián Martín to clear the ball off the line. A minute later and up the other end Lanzarote had two penalty calls within the space of seconds waived away by the official even though his assistant was waving his flag for a spot kick.

On the hour mark Jotha whipped in a dangerous free kick and British player Louis Kennedy jumped well and timed his headed flick to perfection as the ball flew into the bottom corner to bring his side back into the game at 1-1. I immediately looked over and saw Louis´s mum Jacky with a smile that only a proud mum can have.

Three minutes later and the Rojillos completely turned the tables on the match. From 25 yards Raúl put his laces through the ball and hit a free kick as sweetly as you could possibly strike a ball. From the moment the ball left the centre backs boot it was destined for goal. The ball travelled at the speed of light and was still rising as it thumped the roof of the net. This was a real classic and easily his side’s best goal of the season so far.

With the score 2-1 in the Rojillos favour the confidence began to grow. Toñito was loving life teasing the Fuerteventura defence by nutmegging the left back and causing the defence endless problems.

In the 80th minute sub Taja tore down the left wing and fed the ever alert Echedey, he fired in a shot which thundered off the post and fell to Toñito. As Toñito was about to strike he was upended and earned his side a clear penalty.

Striker Rosmen is now the normal penalty taker but as he was picked for the Canarian league eleven he couldn’t play so Toñito stepped up and sent the keeper the wrong way giving his side a two goal cushion with the score at 3-1.

Lanzarote move up three places to 10th spot and are once again at home in their next match which has been changed from Sunday the 15th to SATURDAY 14th at 5pm in TIAS versus Villa Santa Brígida.

I have put up all the posters for the next few games in all the bars and receptions on the island. If any of you see these posters could you please change the date of the next match v Villa Santa Brígida and change it to Sat 14th at 5pm. Thanks.
