The day did not start well for Manager Adolfo Perez having to make two changes to the starting eleven during the warm up session. Keeper Agoney unwell was replaced by Aridani, who debuted this season. Falo the clubs newest signing was injured during the warm up and was replaced by Fran Machin. This was a blow to an already depleted squad.
CD Vera came looking for the tie with little attacking football seen on their part. UD Lanzarote tried hard to breakdown the defensive network of CD Vera without success in the short term. On 22 minutes Jotha tried his luck with a shot from midfield, goalkeeper Jose had to delay his position to prevent the ball crossing the line. The keeper slipped on the goal line and everyone thought the Rojillos (Reds) were on the score sheet. I loosely say everyone unfortunately the Referee did not see it that way and the goal was not given.
At times CD Vera had up to nine players behind the ball when UD Lanzarote had the ball in play. After 35 minutes Rosmen found the back of the net only to be off side. In the final minutes of the first half a good combination between Rosmen and Angel Gil failed to beat the keeper and the first half ended 0-0
The second part of play continued in much the same way as the previous 45 minutes with CD Vera merely defending. Juanca tried on 57 minutes with his shot lost over the bar. His next attempt on goal was more on target but sadly for us it hit the cross bar.
The entry onto the field (Nani 60) and (Ryan72) gave more mobility to UD Lanzarote. By this time CD Vera found there attacking mode, Lele crossed the ball to Ignacio and luckily for the home side the ball was too high and went over the bar. One further attempt on goal by the visitors came on 81 minutes again too high.
In the final minutes UD Lanzarote continued to put pressure on the visitors and their reward came on the 89 minutes Taja a player who had only just entered the pitch, took a cross from the left wing, Rosmen rose above the defender to nod the ball into the back of the net, much to the joy of the 250 fans in the stands.
In stoppage time, Ryan was able to increase the score line but alas the ball found the hands of the keeper. The final whistle came with the score line remaining at 1-0. This victory now takes UD Lanzarote to 6th place in the League on 17 points.
