LANZAROTE 3 CD VERA 4

10th March 2013

LANZAROTE   3   CD VERA   4

Remarkably the Rojillos (The Reds) go down to exactly the same score line as they did on their last home outing. Any neutral supporters would have loved it. Seven goals, Lanzarote hit the crossbar on no less than four occasions and had two goals ruled out for offside.

So often this season Lanzarote start badly and on a hot afternoon in Arrecife the Rojillos were two goals down inside the opening half hour.

The opener came in the 13th minute following an awful defensive mistake by Lanzarote´s right back Camacho. Chasing back after the ball with an attacker on his trail the 27 year old committed a sin in football that you learn not to do as an eight year old. He carelessly knocked the ball across his 18 yard box straight to the grateful striker Borja who then chipped the keeper to give the Tenerife side an early gift with a 0-1 lead.

CD Vera was not dominating the game by any means but on the half hour they caught the Rojillos on the break down the right wing. Borja fed his right back Joni inside the 18 yard box and the defender neatly chipped over Lanzarote´s keeper Adonay to give his side a shock 0-2 lead.

The Rojillos game plan was again thrown out of the window but they began to knock their passes around and looked far more threatening though still went into the half time break with their heads down and a two nil deficit to claw back.

Two minutes after the restart Juancar was unlucky to see his effort rebound off the crossbar as Lanzarote began to dominate. In the 57th minute Camacho was brought down in the box and Toñito sent the keeper the wrong way from the resulting spot kick and made the score 1-2.

The home side’s joy was short lived as another horrific defensive mistake allowed midfielder Nau to tap home from close range and restore his sides two goal advantage at 1-3.

The Rojillos then played with just three defenders and in the 66th minute were rewarded when Juancar fired home a beauty from 15 yards to put his side back into the match at 2-3.

Lanzarote were on all out assault against the side one place above them in the league and captain Jotha hit a cracking drive from 25 yards only to see the ball fly off the bar with the keeper well beaten. Kamara then thought he had levelled but his effort was ruled out for offside. Lanzarote then hit the crossbar twice in the space of 30 seconds but still could not find the net.

The two British brothers were introduced within five minutes of each other but it was striker Ryan who had just shaken off the flu that looked menacing. His pace terrified the Tenerife defence and with his first touch he perfectly read a cross from the right and ran onto the ball nodding home from six yards. Unfortunately the linesman flagged and the Ref dubiously disallowed the goal.

In the 84th minute right back Joni caught Lanzarote on the break and with a wonderful solo effort which saw him fly past various defenders before neatly chipping over the keeper to surely make his side comfortable at 2-4.

The Rojillos still pressed but the Tenerife keeper was in inspired form with a string of superb saves, however sub Roberto Cabrera blasted Lanzarote back into the match with a 90th minute strike to make it a tense final few minutes of injury time with the score poised at 3-4.

In the final play the Tenerife keeper tipped over his bar from what looked a certain goal to ensure his side travel home with maximum points.

Another fantastic exciting match but for the second game running ending up without a single point after putting so much effort into the match.

The Rojillos are in 15th spot and travel to Tenerife next week to face 11th placed side UD Ibarra.
