LANZAROTE 0 UD VILLA SANTA BRÍGIDA 2
The Rojillos good run of form ended on Saturday evening with the Gran Canarian side scoring a goal in each half and deservedly taking home all three points.
After some excellent performances Lanzarote were far from their best. The opening stages was a stop start affair because of injuries to both sides and the Rojillos could not set their traditional fast pace to the match.
The visitors then began to pass the ball around well and held possession which made Lanzarote chase the game.
In the 18th minute a corner ferociously whipped in by the lively winger Adrián was met brilliantly by Pancho who timed his run to perfection leaving the defender for dead and glanced his header powerfully into the roof of the net.
At the end of the half both sides had a great opportunity to score, in the 45th minute a free kick for the visitors deflected off defender Kamara and hit the post with the ball thankfully going for a corner.
Lanzarote broke from the resulting corner and a cross from the right found Rojillos Javi Betancort alone and only eight yards out, the midfielder chose to head the cross when maybe his better option would have been to chest down then strike. His header was read by keeper as he saved with ease.
Lanzarote are no strangers to being one down going into the break this season but often a good second half fight back follows. Manager Adolfo Pérez played with three at the back and the Rojillos began to force the game. Rosmen had several good chances but it was not his day as his efforts were going every direction other than goal bound.
As the game grew so did Lanzarote´s dominance and when winger Toñito turned in the box he was completely pole axed by the defender and a blatant penalty was obviously the result, unfortunately the Ref who was perfectly positioned incredibly waived play on.
In the 85th minute the visitors were awarded a free kick from 20 yards. Central defender Jonay stepped up and fired in a fierce curling free kick which hit high and off the post and into the net. A goal of some class which was applauded by many of the home fans.
Lanzarote still pressed but the Gran Canarian side held out and were worthy 0-2 winners.
Lanzarote remain in 14th spot and play away next Sunday in La Palma versus a side one position and two points above the Rojillos in the league table.
Lanzarote´s next home game has had the date changed. The match versus Club Atlético Victoria was due to be played on the 6th Jan but this is Kings Day so the fixture has been brought forward. The match is now confirmed to be played on SUNDAY 30th DECEMBER at 4pm. unfortunately I cannot change this in the holiday Gazette as it’s too late. I have put up posters in the bars, hotels etc so I would appreciate it if you see the poster could you change the date on it to the 30th Dec at 4pm kick off to avoid disappointment to any tourists. Thanks.
