Lanzarote 4 SD Tenisca 2
Rojillos make it 10 points out of a possible 12 in their last four matches. Twice the visitors were in front but a couple of goals each for Rosmen and Toñito see Lanzarote win with ease.
This victory could have been so much easier had the Lanzarote defence not joined in early in the Christmas festivities by gifting the La Palma side their two goals.
The game did not begin well for the Rojillos as the league’s top marksman Dani López latched on to some comical defending in the sixth minute and easily dispatched the ball home to give his side an early 0-1 lead.
This hiccup didn’t seem to hinder Lanzarote´s game plan as it has done in recent weeks and in the 19th minute the Rojillos were back on level terms. Rosmen lead a super counter attack which was taken over by Alex Yunes who then fed Toñito on the left and the unpredictable winger slotted home off the post to make the score 1-1.
Eight minutes later and the eighth placed side were back in front. An awful misjudged header back to his keeper by Adrián Martín fell well short and striker Memo who always seems to score against Lanzarote for any club he has played for easily rounded the Lanzarote keeper Marcos Machín and fired home to give the advantage back to his side with a 1-2 lead.
On the half hour mark an incident occurred which proved to be a game changing moment. Toñito was fed through the centre and it was a race to the ball between him and the keeper, the pacy winger won the battle and got his toe to the ball but was pole axed by the Tenisca keeper. The ball was cleared off the line but the Ref had no choice but to award a penalty and slightly harshly branded a red card to the goalkeeper though he was the last man.
Tenisca were forced to make a substitution to enable their second choice keeper to go between the sticks. Jotha Lanzarote´s normal penalty taker was out through suspension so Rosmen stepped up for the spot kick. He should have put his laces through the ball and banged it down the centre as a new keeper entering the play will go one way or the other. Rosmen chose the correct right corner as the keeper went to his left but the ball hit the post and away to safety.
Nevertheless Lanzarote were playing some good football and were making their opposition work by chasing the ball but come the half time interval the Rojillos were trailing by 1-2.
The second half began wonderfully for a Rojillo point of view. Two minutes in and the hard working Rosmen fed Toñito who slotted the ball home for his second of the game and to put his side in front 3-2 for the first time in the match.
The Rojillos dominated play and in the 59th minute Toñito was clearly brought down in the box but astonishingly the Ref only awarded a yellow card for the Lanzarote winger. Toñito does tend to go to ground far too easily on occasions so maybe justice was done even though this time it was a stone clad penalty.
Another defensive disaster by Lanzarote would have led to a leveller for the visitors were it not for a great fingertip save from the Rojillo keeper. That was the last chance the La Palma side had in the match.
Two minutes later and right back Kamara whipped in a pin point cross, Rosmen rose and glanced his header wide of the Tenisca keeper and into the far right hand corner giving his side an unassailable 4-2 lead.
Lively sub Miguel Yunes spun on a sixpence late on and wriggled past his defender only to see the keeper equal to his attempt by saving with his feet.
Apart from the defensive frailties this was a great and entertaining performance by Lanzarote and with so many home games to come in recent weeks it does give the Conejeros (Locals) the platform to catapult up the league table.
First up is this Sunday 9th Dec at 11.30am Lanzarote will host fourth from bottom side UD Telde.
