First up is a four flight return journey to the island of La Palma to face UD Los Llanos on Saturday 17th October at 12 noon.

The newly promoted side have won both of their home matches so far this season and are in 10th spot, one point and two positions ahead of Lanzarote.

Next Wednesday 21st October Lanzarote fly to Tenerife to play UD Añaza at 6.30pm in a rearranged fixture.

The visitors were the better team in the first half and in truth should have been a goal up before their 35th strike.

Lanzarote were much improved in the second half and Aco hit the woodwork from a curling free kick in the 58th minute but the visitors defence always looked strong.

Ten minutes later and things were made harder for Lanzarote when Dani Herrera received a red card for pulling down the striker and being the last man.

Lanzarote still had their chances, the best of which was a 20-yard free kick taken by Álvaro Cordero which cannoned off the crossbar and away to safety.

San Fernando return to top spot whilst Lanzarote drop two positions to 12th. Next Saturday the Rojillos travel to La Palma and face UD Los Llanos.

Lanzarote are on a high after coming from behind in last week’s dramatic 1-2 away win against the league leaders. The Rojillos are still one of only two teams that remain unbeaten but with 3 draws and 1 win they are in 10^th spot.

UD San Fernando led by ex Rojillo manager Juan Carlos Socorro will also be full of confidence after a 3-0 home win last week which sent them to top of the table and they lead Lanzarote by 3 points.

REMEMBERING MAIKEL PADRÓN

On Thursday 8^th October it will be 8 years since the death of former UD Lanzarote player Maikel Padrón. After a short illness Maikel was taken from us at just 34 years of age. At Sundays match as customary, in the 18^th minute (Maikels shirt number) we will hold a minute’s round of applause in the stadium to honour his memory.

In the 18th minute a minutes round of applause will be held honoring Maikel.

V.I.P. SECTION

This season the club has created a V.I.P. section just below the director’s box in section F. Previously this was used for sponsors but with over 80 seats available there was always seats remaining.

The club has decided to keep this area for sponsors but also for any member who has bought a Goldcard, adults 120 Euros, pensioners 100 Euros. There are still limited seats available on match days and tickets can be bought in the shop in Costa Teguise or at the ticket office at the stadium on match day at adults 15 Euros, Child 5 Euros.

We do understand that regular season ticket holders had been using this section and I know some are upset however this area was originally for sponsors and it is important for the club to generate income wherever possible.

We have been asked by customers that work during the week if we were going to open at the weekend. From this week we will now open Saturday mornings.

Anyone wishing to buy match tickets for this Sunday’s game at 11am in Arrecife can also do that during those shop hours. Of course, you can still turn up on Sunday at the stadium and pay on the door though buying beforehand avoids any queues on match day.

On Sundays we will also be at our club stall at the Teguise market (main plaza near public toilets) from 9.30am to 2pm.

Ironically back then it was also versus the league leaders and today against a strong Las Palmas C side that also began the day at the top of the league.

Lanzarote had the better of the first half but didn’t take their chances.

Early in the second half Las Palmas took the lead but the Rojillos showed strong spirit. Firstly, an Ale Fuentes penalty in the 68th minute brought them level at 1-1.

Only three minutes later and winger Nadjib who is only just back from injury scored a glorious goal from 35 yards to give his side maximum points and move his team to within three points of top spot.

Next Sunday 11th October Lanzarote are at home in Ciudad Deportiva at 11am versus UD San Fernando.

The league is still in its infancy, though there are only three teams that remain unbeaten in just the three matches that have been played.

Lanzarote are still one of those teams that are unbeaten, however the Rojillos are sitting in 14th spot and only goal difference from the relegation positions, whilst the other two sides are first and second in the league.

The day will begin at 9am with three sides from Lanzarote and two from the mainland competing in several matches.

The highlight of the day will be shortly after 12 noon where our UD Lanzarote Walking Team will take on Spain’s Side.

The club is proud that three members of their team Victor Medeiros, Adrián Duarte and Scott Colcombe have been selected for the national side but will play for UD Lanzarote in this match.

The 21-year-old had to wait until swelling receded to know the full extent of his injury. Unfortunately, it wasn’t good news.

The UD Lanzarote player has been diagnosed with a fracture of the cruciate ligament and the external meniscus of the right knee whilst also suffering a sprained internal ligament.

He is due surgery immediately and it does seem that the hugely promising midfielder will be spending the majority of the season recuperating. From all involved at the club we wish Isaac a speedy and healthy recovery.

San Bartolomé started the better but it was the Rojillos that took a 6th minute lead. A short corner was then crossed into the box and Aco Hernández headed home, his second goal in successive weeks to give Lanzarote a 1-0 advantage.

That lead didn’t last long. Two minutes later and San Bartolomé were awarded a penalty that was thrashed home to level the score.

The Batateros (Sweet Potato Farmers) urged on by their vociferous supporters took the initiative and created the better chances but the score remained 1-1 going into the break.

Nobody would have stopped this belter of a penalty.

Lanzarote were much better after the interval but both sides had wonderful opportunities to take the lead but the goalkeepers from either side were in tremendous form.

Lanzarote introduced their new signing Marcos Marrero just after the hour. Moments after his arrival on what was his first touch he struck from the edge of the box curling his effort low into the right-hand corner, however the San Bartolomé keeper superbly got his fingers on the ball to only concede a corner.

A crowd of around 2000 were rewarded with a highly entertaining match.

Seconds after that Blas Álvarez headed across the box and a Lanzarote head got onto the ball in the six-yard box and every Lanzarote fan were out of their seats convinced it was a goal but somehow it was cleared off the line.

Both sides were looking for the win and credit must be given to the referee as there were a few rash challenges but he did his best to let the game flow understanding that it was a derby match.

Lanzarote are in 14th spot whilst San Bartolomé move up one place to second. Next week Lanzarote have a difficult away match versus leaders UD Las Palmas C.

What a match we have to look forward to. San Bartolomé have struggled in their first few seasons in RFEF 3 (5th Tier) usually fighting against relegation but each year they have improved.

The Batateros (Sweet Potato Farmers) have got off to a flier this season and are one of only three teams to have maximum points after their two matches.

You can be assured that the village of San Bartolomé will be empty this Sunday as all their inhabitants will be in Arrecife to watch this game so arrive early.

Lanzarote remain unbeaten but have just two points on the board and in the next three matches they play third, second, then the leaders so they will be desperate for points to ignite their season.
