What a match we have to look forward to. San Bartolomé have struggled in their first few seasons in RFEF 3 (5th Tier) usually fighting against relegation but each year they have improved.

The Batateros (Sweet Potato Farmers) have got off to a flier this season and are one of only three teams to have maximum points after their two matches.

You can be assured that the village of San Bartolomé will be empty this Sunday as all their inhabitants will be in Arrecife to watch this game so arrive early.

Lanzarote remain unbeaten but have just two points on the board and in the next three matches they play third, second, then the leaders so they will be desperate for points to ignite their season.

The locals scored against the run of play in the 10th minute. An excellent counter attack caught out the Rojillo defence and Villaverde scored their first ever goal at home in the Spanish fifth tier.

Ten minutes later Ale Fuentes should have levelled matters when some great team play gave him the opportunity for a free strike at goal from 10 yards but it went wide.

The home side stood up to the pressure well and took the 1-0 lead into the break.

Lanzarote introduced striker Álvaro Cordero for the second half and immediately him and strike partner Aco Hernández gave their side much more options as they began to threaten their opponents.

There are not many journeys to away matches more beautiful than this.

Finally, in the 67th minute Aco Hernández fired in from 10 yards for his first goal in a Rojillo shirt to level matters.

Lanzarote gave all they got to find the winner but the Fuerteventura defence was well organized and handled the onslaught.

Next Sunday the 27th September Lanzarote are at home for their first derby match of the season versus San Bartolomé CF at 11.30am.

The players will be joined on the 9am ferry with a bus load of fans as well as others that have decided to make a weekend trip to Fuerteventura.

The home side is making this match, The “Dia del Club” day which means that they expect strong home support and have set the entrance price at 10 euros.

To all the supporters who are on the organized club excursion please remember that residents need to bring their DNI and you should have an up-to-date Certificado de Viajes. This is rarely asked for but it could be. Non-residents you must bring your passport.

The stadium at Villaverde offers little or no shade so please make sure everyone has plenty of sunscreen, definitely a hat and plenty of water.

Our first pick up Saturday morning is in Costa Teguise (Apartamentos Nazaret) at 7am followed by Ciudad Deportiva in Arrecife at 7.20am. We will then travel down to Puerto del Carmen and pick up from the Biosfera bus stop at 7.40am.

If all goes well, we should arrive at the ferry in Playa Blanca at 8.15am. We will have 6 people joining us from Playa Blanca so those people should keep an eye out for our bus as I (Ian) will need to give you the ferry tickets.

The bus will have a UD Lanzarote scarf on the front window and the company we are using is called Robayna.

Naturally we will be doing our traditional raffle on the ferry and we have absolutely heaps of prizes including Outdoor cinema tickets, meals for two people from several establishments as well as official shirts and other merchandise.

Raffle tickets will be available from Lorraine and Leigh and they will be hunting you down on the ferry so have your cash ready. The draw which is always a lot of fun will be on the 4pm return ferry.

The bus company has informed us that we need to move the pick-up times slightly earlier. The new times are:

Costa Teguise: 7:00 AM (Nazaret Apartments)

Arrecife: 7:20 AM (Ciudad Deportiva)

Puerto del Carmen: 7:40 AM (Biosfera)

Arrival in Playa Blanca: 8:15 AM

We will send an individual message to all who are on the excursion.

For those joining the trip in Playa Blanca, we will be on the bus named “Robayna,” which will have a Lanzarote scarf displayed in the front window.

It’s a fantastic opportunity to enjoy a great day out supporting Lanzarote!

Fortunately, the weather forecast looks as though it’s going to finally start to cool down on Thursday, though temperatures come the weekend are expected to be in the mid to high 20s.

Lanzarote began the match brightly and in the opening minutes had several chances to take the lead. The Tenerife keeper pulled off one magnificent save and the Rojillo front men looked a little rusty with their finishing.

A decent crowd of around 700 turned up despite the islands biggest festival the night before and intense heat.

Against the run of play the Tenerife side took an 8th minute lead and despite Lanzarote dominating possession they went into the interval with that 0-1 advantage.

The second half began with tragedy. 21-year-old Isaac Morales who had been sensational in preseason for Lanzarote went down which looked like a serious knee injury. Play was held up for 15 minutes whilst the ambulance came and took the Lanzarote midfielder to hospital.

I am sure everyone wishes the very best to Isaac and whilst it’s too early to know the full scale of the injury there is room for positivity from the initial assessment from the specialist but we will need to wait and see.

Only a few minutes after the injury Lanzarote were level in somewhat controversial circumstances.

Midfielder Javi Martín swivelled on the edge of the box and fired in a powerful strike which hit the underside of the crossbar and according to the referee’s assistant who did have the best view it was a goal. As you can imagine the Tenerife side were unhappy with the decision and scuffles broke out but the score was 1-1.

In the 70th minute Lanzarote thought they had taken a 2-1 lead. A shot from distance from Javi Martín was fumbled by the keeper and striker Aco Hernández was on hand to head home the rebound. The same linesman that awarded Lanzarote their goal had his flag waving ending the Rojillo celebrations with an offside decision.

The Tenerife side late looked as though they had regained the lead when a lovely deft touch from 8 yards across the goal hit the crossbar and was cleared by a defender.

Lanzarote tried with all their might to find a winner but it was not to be. The Tenerife side were good value for their point.

A large crowd is expected so it would be wise to arrive shortly after the doors open because there is likely to be a queue for tickets.

The league should have begun last week but because the Canarian team was competing in a competition in Latvia all matches were postponed.

Pre-season has gone well for the Rojillos with Lanzarote winning two of the three tournaments that they played in and all the players are raring to go.

Those wishing to join the excursion to Fuerteventura for the first away match on Saturday 19th September can pay and book at the match on Sunday or at our shop in Costa Teguise. Book soon because we can only get one bus with 55 seats so places are limited.

Our excursions over to Fuerteventura have proven to be very popular over the years and the club is hoping for plenty of support to help get that important first away win and get the season off to a flyer.

The bus will begin its pick up in Costa Teguise (outside Nazaret Apartments) and leave promptly at 7.30am. We will then go to the stadium in Arrecife and leave at 7.45am followed by the bus-stop at the Biosfera shopping complex in Puerto Del Carmen at 8am on the Saturday morning.

The bus will then drive down for the 9am ferry to Playa Blanca. All will rejoin the bus in Fuerteventura including any from Playa Blanca and we will make the short 15-minute bus journey to Villaverde and arrive with plenty of time for the 12-noon kick-off.

You will need to pay entry to the game which I believe is around 6 Euros and pay for any refreshments you wish to have.

After the match it will be back on the bus bagging three valuable points and return on the 4pm ferry.

Cost for residents is 33 Euros for adults and 28 euros for children 11 years and under. For Non-residents the cost is 65 Euros adults and 45 euros for children (more expensive as residents receive subsidy).

On our first home match on the 13th September at 11.30am our club administrator Iván will be there taking bookings for the excursion depending if there are seats remaining.

For residents you will need a photocopy of your DNI/NIE. For non-residents you only need a copy of your passport. Bring that to whom you book with.

When boarding the ferry residents should bring with them on the day an up-to-date Certificado de Viajes and their DNI/NIE whilst non-residents must bring their passport.

Lanzarote couldn’t have gotten off to a better start with 16-year-old Edu firing his side into a 0-1 lead in the opening minute.

On the half hour Lanzarote doubled their lead thanks to new striker Álvaro Cordero. The home side scored just before the break then five minutes into the second half to level matters at 2-2.

The Rojillos other new striker Aco Hernández restored Lanzarote’s lead two minutes later to make it 2-3.

The old saying that you are at your most vulnerable when you have scored came true for Lanzarote as the home side levelled a minute later to end the match 3-3.

As this was a tournament match (San Rocque) the game was decided on penalties and the locals won 3-2.

In two weeks’, time Lanzarote will return to face Villaverde in a league match on Saturday 19th September at 12 noon. This is an event that the club plan to do an organized excursion. Details will be announced early next week.

We will be open from Monday to Friday 10am to 1pm and then again from 5-7pm up until and including the 9th September. We will also be open this Saturday 5th September from 10am to 1pm.

Season tickets are available during these times. Our first match of the season is at home on Sunday 13th September at 11.30am.

As always, our stall in Teguise market will be open every Sunday from 9.30am until 2pm.

From the 10th September our shop will return to its normal hours of Mon-Fri 10am to 1pm and also Wednesdays 5-7pm.

The Rojillos dominated the first half but failed to create clear chances. In the 35th minute striker Aco Hernández had a golden opportunity to give Lanzarote the lead from the penalty spot but his effort was well saved.

Five minutes later Yaiza were awarded a spot kick and made no mistake from it and went into the halftime break with a 0-1 advantage.

The second half was much more even but it wasn’t until the 73rd that Lanzarote equalized. Nadjib for the second time this pre season scored superbly from a corner kick.

The match ended level at 1-1 and went directly to penalty kicks. Unbelievably the first five penalties were either saved or missed.

Keeper Yael saved Yaizas final penalty and Lanzarote won their second consecutive tournament this pre season.
