Lanzarote were dominating the match and in the space of five minutes striker Nami had three good opportunities to give his side the lead.

As happens in football and exactly what happened in this fixture last season the Tenerife side took the lead with a beauty of a strike from 20 yards into the top left corner.

The Rojillos continued to force San Miguel onto the back foot and were rewarded in the 85th minute when Pablo Kawecki struck from six yards to level at 1-1.

The Rojillos pushed for the winner with Gopar and Kawecki adding to the intensity but it was the Tenerife side that could have easily won the match.

Rojillos midfielder Héctor brought down a Tenerife striker when he was clear through and deservedly was shown a red card however if he hadn’t it was likely that he would have scored the winner.

Lanzarote climb one position to seventh and are five points off the playoff positions.

Next week Lanzarote travel to Gran Canaria to face UD Telde.

The club has decided to reduce the price of a season ticket to attract more fans on their push for promotion in their final 9 home matches.

An adult season ticket was previously 75 Euros and that is now 50 Euros and a season ticket for a pensioner was previously 50 Euros and is now available for 35 Euros. All children under 16 years of age are admitted free of charge.

The season ticket can be used in our next home match on Sunday 4th January and it’s a cracker versus derby rivals San Bartolomé CF at 11am.

Anyone can buy a season ticket whether you live on the island or not and if you are not going to the match it can be given for someone else to use. It is a very good  present for Spanish Christmas (Reyes) and they are available now in our shop in Costa Teguise at CC Nautical, Local 25, Costa Teguise. (behind Café Oppa) open Monday to Friday 10am to 1pm and also Wednesdays 5-7pm. They can also be bought on match day at the entrance.

Match tickets can also be purchased from the shop and the tickets can be used for any of our remaining 9 home league matches.

The pace of the match was furious from the opening whistle and continued until the final whistle.

Credit to both sets of players but credit must also be given to the referee for constantly allowing play to continue. Of course, he made mistakes but he allowed the players to fiercely challenge for the ball and refused to award free kicks for minor misdemeanors which in turn allowed the game to flow into an exciting spectacle.

A crowd of around 1400 enjoyed a hugely entertaining match.

The Gran Canarian side took the lead in the 15th minute from a great low strike just beyond keeper Ruyman and into the far-left hand corner.

The game was end to end with plenty of opportunities for both sides. Gradually the Rojillos became more dominant and in the 35th minute a terrific bit of control by Lisandro then a wonderful chip drew Lanzarote level at 1-1.

Seconds later Lanzarote looked certain to take the lead but the Las Palmas keeper made two excellent saves to deny the Rojillos.

The second half was equally as intense with the best opportunity falling to youngster Junior. He broke through the middle and rounded the keeper but on the wet slippery surface lost his footing and the chance had gone.

Lanzarote remain in second spot trailing leaders CD Átletico Paso by two points. Next Saturday 22^nd November they travel to Gran Canaria and face Arucas CF.

The first half was even but the Gran Canarian side did have the best opportunity just before the break forcing Ruyman to save well, low to his right.

The home side took the lead three minutes into the second half. A ball crossed in from the right was headed onto the crossbar but the ball fell kindly for the Santa Brígida striker who nodded home the rebound.

For a short while Lanzarote began to play some good football but rarely threatened their opponents.

The home sides second goal really summed up Lanzarote’s day. A dreadful back pass and an awful mistake by the Rojillos keeper gifted Santa Brígida a 2-0 lead.

Lanzarote never looked like they were capable of responding and in all honesty the home side should have inflicted more pain.

It is just one game but Rojillos manager Ángel López knows that he cannot rely on his team’s superb home form and that his side must pick up points on the road.

Lanzarote relinquish top spot to CD Átletico Paso following their 0-3 away win versus San Bartolomé on Saturday afternoon but will remain in second spot whatever happens in tomorrow’s matches.

Next Sunday 16th November at 12 noon Lanzarote must continue their excellent home form but they face a rapidly improving UD Las Palmas C team.

Yaiza deservedly went into the break 2-0 up with a goal in the 36th minute and a penalty in added on time.

Lanzarote offered very little in the opening half and Rojillos manager Ángel López brought on Loukou, Miguel Gopar and the super Pablo for the second half.

Things began to tick for Lanzarote and this was made easier when the home side were reduced to 10 men with the Yaiza centre back picking up his second yellow card.

Yaiza were trying to slow down the game at every opportunity but the Rojillos had the grit between their teeth and had Yaiza chasing shadows.

Striker Nami headed the Rojillos back into the game in the 56th minute and it was one way traffic.

A deep cross from Alex Cruz found Moha at the far post to level the score at two apiece in the 71st minute.

On the terraces passions overflowed a little and the police were called over to calm down things. Credit to Yaiza as they began to steady their ship.

In the 5th minute of injury time a long throw from ex Rojillo Dani Febles was glanced home to give Yaiza what looked like the winner at 3-2.

Two minutes later 20-year-old substitute Junior chipped the ball over the defender and calmly slotted the ball inside the far-right hand post to score his first ever goal for Lanzarote and put his side level at 3-3.

Whilst everyone caught their breath the referee finally blew for full time with both teams earning a hard-fought point.

Lanzarote remain top by a point and next Sunday 2nd November at 12 noon they are home versus mid table side CF P.P. San Mateo. Doors open at 11am.

Sat 23rd Third v Fourth place final at 6pm

Sat 23rd Gran Final at 9pm

Entrance is 5 Euros (not sure what age children are free to but usually its 15 years and under),refreshments are available at the stadium. Do take a warm top as it can be quite cold in Tinajo once the sun has set.

The San Ginés tournament will follow this and is organised by the Arrecife Ayuntamiento and will be held at our home stadium Ciudad Deportiva in Arrecife between 27-29 August.

The four men’s teams competing are: UD Lanzarote, CD Tenerife B, Xerez CD and UD San Sebastián de los Reyes. The schedule will be announced shortly but the semi finals are likely to be on the evening of Wed 27th and the third and fourth place and also the Gran Final will be on Fri 29th.

A Triangular ladies tournament will also be featured in the San Ginés with CD Tinajo, Inter Playa Honda and Orientation Maritima all competing in the. This is likely to be played in one evening on Thursday 28th.

The squad will have their first training session at home in Arrecife at Ciudad Deportiva this Monday the 28^th July at 6.30pm. The pre season tournaments will begin thereafter and I will publish the dates once I know the times and days that UD Lanzarote will play in those tournaments. Fixtures have NOT yet been released but they should be soon. The league commences on the 7^th September but we do not know whether we are home or away.

The Bingo event is definitely happening on Saturday 30^th August in Los Valles (just past Teguise). A fantastic fun evening organised by the players and buses will run from Puerto Del Carmen, Costa Teguise and Arrecife at a return bus price of only 4 Euros. Tickets will be available shortly and I will publish more details about this super event next week.

The annual beach training event where youngsters are encouraged to train with our first team on the beach is due to take place sometime in August but as yet we do not have a confirmed date or venue.

SIGNINGS

ANTONIO GUTIÉRREZ (renewed)

The 21 year old goalkeeper in the main photo joined the club last season after Alejandro picked up his long term injury. He was on the bench on 15 occasions covering for Ruyman.

IGNACIO FORLINO (new signing)

The left footed versatile defender becomes the clubs ninth new signing. Ignacio turned 22 years of age a couple of weeks ago and is 5 foot 11 inches (180cm) tall and has arrived from C.A. All Boys in Argentina with the help of his Argentinean/Italian nationality.

PABLO KAWECKI (new signing)

The attacking midfielder from Sevilla becomes the 10^th and final new signing for the club. The left footed 24 year old trained with the youth sides of Atlético Madrid and represented France at under 16 year level due to his Spanish/French nationality. He has spent time studying in America whilst playing football but in 23/24 he returned to Spain and played with CD Manchego Ciudad Real. Last season at the same level as Lanzarote he started on 29 of the 33 occasions that he was involved in and scored 5 goals with 4 assists.

ASSISTANT GENERAL MANAGER

Whilst most supporters are usually only interested in the playing staff the club have importantly appointed Iván Eugenio as the assistant general manager. Iván has 10 years experience in the Spanish National Leagues dealing with administration and he will work alongside the clubs long term General manager César Saavedra and President Juan Carlos Albuixech.

Javi Mayor scored his second goal in successive games just after the interval to give his side the advantage.

The second placed side only took less than 10 minutes to level matters and then scored the winner ten minutes from time.

Lanzarote now trail the final playoff spot by five points. This Thursday 17th April Lanzarote begin their first of two consecutive home matches when they face Arucas CF at home in Tías at 12 noon.

It wasn’t easy for both sides as a blustery wind made it difficult for straight forward passing.

The Rojillos dominated the first half and had two very good chances to take the lead with Machín and Fuentes inches away.

Sun, wind and rain greeted the 600 or so crowd.

A strike in the 36th minute by Fuentes hit the crossbar and first to react was striker Iván Hujo who nodded the ball home.

A couple of minutes later and a trip on Machín was rewarded with a penalty kick. The same player stepped up and rifled his strike into the top left corner for a 2-0 halftime lead.

The Rojillos once again dominated the second half but a goal for the La Palma side would have changed the whole complexion of the match and with 20 minutes to go they struck the crossbar.

Late on a weaving run from winger Nadjib ended with a class finish from the edge of the box to give his side a 3-0 win.

Next Saturday 15^th March Lanzarote meet 4th placed side UD Ibarra in Tenerife at 12 noon.

As it happened Lanzarote were top of the league for 24 minutes as the Gran Canarian side hit back with goals in the 74th and 86th minute and then deep into injury time made it a complete comeback with the winner.

It goes to show that you cannot take anything for granted in football and congratulations to Santa Brígida for still believing. Lanzarote will end the weekend as they began it in fourth spot.

Lanzarote will go again next Sunday 22nd December when they are at home in Tías at 12.30pm and face CD Mensajero.
