Lanzarote went 1-0 down midway through the first half and to be fair were holding on until halftime.

The second half began with the Gran Canarian team on top but little by little Lanzarote fought their way back into the match.

Rojillos manager Ángel López brought on Nadjib, Pablo, Fuentes and Moha and you could feel the nerves take hold with Tamaraceite.

Deep into stoppage time Lanzarote got what they deserved when Moha smashed the ball in from eight yards.

Tensions flowed at the end of the match with Tamaraceite players chasing the Rojillo players into their dressing room.

Despite this Tamaraceite remain in third spot and are all but assured a playoff finish.

Lanzarote remain in eighth after this spirited display and next Sunday 3rd May play the local Derby match away in San Bartolomé at 12 noon.

Goalkeeper Ruymán Fernández is UD Lanzarote´s Player of the Season 2025/26 as voted for by the fans. Ruymán is one of the clubs four captains and anyone that knows him understands his love and desire for the club. Over the past few years Ruymán and his fellow goalkeeper and friend Alejandro have always had their fair share of the votes and it is wonderful to see that the Rojillo fans have recognised this and awarded him the honour of winning the trophy.

UD Lanzarote President Juan Carlos Albuixech informed Ruymán today on his 38^th birthday that he was voted player of the season and as expected he was delighted.

Ruymán will have the honour of being presented the “Nina Gil” trophy on the pitch at the final home league game of the season versus Real Unión Tenerife on May 10^th by UD Lanzarote legend Pedro Cruz.

 UD Lanzarote´s second most voted player is last season’s winner, captain Raúl Fernández. Raúl is a quiet man and just does his no nonsense talking on the pitch. I cannot remember a game where he played badly however, he made one mistake in a playoff match a couple of years ago in Gran Canaria which led to a goal.Typically, I sat next to him on the flight home and I was old enough and wise enough to not utter a word, his expression told me everything.

Second place goes to Captain Raúl Fernández who was last seasons winner.

Third place goes to Javi Martín. Last season Javi was voted in fifth place but this season he has cemented third spot and I’m sure that he will want to continue the climb next season. Normally a midfielder but for parts of this campaign due to injuries he has played centre back and has excelled. He has brought that elegance and vision he possesses to the defence and in an instant, he can turn defence into attack with one of his trademark passes.

When these two sides met in Arrecife just before Christmas Lanzarote played their best match of the season winning 5-0.

The Gran Canarian side dusted off that defeat and with three matches remaining they are poised for a playoff finish, whereas Lanzarote hopes of extending their season beyond May 10th have diminished as they sit in 8th spot and are seven points adrift.

In the fourth minute Rojillos striker Moha skipped past defenders and rounded the keeper but from a narrow angle he could only shave the woodwork.

Ten minutes later and a superb run from Captain Raúl led to another great chance for Moha but this time the ball went agonizingly past the far post.

The Gran Canarian side are only goal difference from top spot and midway through the first half some excellent team play led to a headed goal to give them a 0-1 lead.

The Rojillos battled away and on the third time of asking Moha chipped the oncoming keeper planting the ball in the left hand corner to level the game.

In the second half despite the heat it was end to end stuff. In the 70th minute a mistimed challenged by Loukou earned him his second yellow card and Lanzarote were down to 10 men.

UD San Fernando smelt blood and pushed forward but they were met with a resilient makeshift defence.

When there was a chance for a counterattack Ale Fuentes, Machín, Yeray Tavio and Nadjib broke with urgency and Lanzarote did have the better chances.

On one of these breaks a square ball across the six yard box looked destined for Yeray Tavio to win it for his side but a miraculous save from the keeper denied Lanzarote their 14th home win of the season.

Lanzarote remain in eighth spot and next Saturday 25th April travel to Gran Canaria to face third placed side UD Tamaraceite at 12 noon.

On entering the stadium for the match versus UD San Fernando on Sunday 19th April at 12 noon club officials will ask the season ticket holders and members who they believe are their three best players of this season.

Last seasons winner Raúl who has either side of him ex Rojillo legendary strikers Maciot and Rosmen.

Three points will be awarded for their best player, two points for the second and a point for their third most favourite player. The player with the most points will become U.D. Lanzarote´s Player of the Season 2025/26 and will win The “Nina Gil” Player of the Season trophy.

The player who has the honour of becoming Player of the Season 2025/26 will have his trophy presented to him by UD Lanzarote legend Pedro Cruz along with a club official in front of the fans before the final league match of the season at home to Real Unión de Tenerife on the 10th May. Pedro was part of that magnificent side in the early 2000´s playing against Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid amongst others.

Our Gran Canarian visitors were in 7^th spot after 10 matches and trailed leaders CD Atlético Paso by 5 points. They replaced their manager with Lanzarote´s boss from last season Juan Carlos Socorro and now with just four games remaining they are in a battle for that one automatic promotion position with just goal difference separating them and Atlético Paso to that dream ticket of RFEF 2 (Fourth Tier).

Lanzarote are in 8^th position after a disappointing second half of the season but their home form is as good as any team in the league with 11 wins, 3 draws and one defeat.

Season ticket holders (abonos) and club members (socios) will have an opportunity to vote for their favourite three players of this season at the match this Sunday. Club officials will be inside the stadium taking votes from 11am.

The Fuerteventura side are fighting for their lives at the bottom of the league and battled for every challenge.

Lanzarote had the best chance in the first half when a powerful strike from Nami was well saved in the 23rd minute.

The Rojillos dominated the early part of the second half but their only threat was on a counter attack.

The Majoreros ( Fuerteventurians) gradually got into the game and they saw an opportunity to claim all three points.

There were several instances near the end where they threw men forward in search of a precious win but in the end both sides had to settle for a point apiece.

Herbania remain third from bottom and are two points from safety whilst Lanzarote move up one position to 8th spot but are seven points off the playoffs with only 12 points left to play for.

Next Sunday 19th April Lanzarote are at home to second placed side UD San Fernando at 12 noon.

Club members and season ticket holders will also have the opportunity to vote for their three favourite players of the season on Sunday when entering the stadium. Details to come.

Lanzarote will be armed with supporters from the clubs organized trip along with plenty that have gone over for the weekend all with the belief that their team will at last find an elusive away win.

Realistically this will be the Rojillos final chance to stage a challenge for a playoff position. Lanzarote trail a playoff finish by five points with five games remaining having played a game more than most of their rivals.

It may sound an uphill challenge and it is, however every team is fighting for survival or promotion and recent results from most teams have been erratic.

Herbania are third from bottom but just a point away from safety with six matches remaining. A win could see them climb above the two other Lanzarote sides possibly leaving them in the relegation positions.

Those who are joining us on the excursion do remember to bring your DNI card and an up-to-date Certificado de Viajes or for non-residents your PASSPORT as identification is needed to board the ferry.

We begin the excursion pick up in Costa Teguise at Apartamentos Nazaret bus stop at 11.15am then a quick stop at Ciudad Deportiva at 11.30am then onto the Biosfera shopping complex bus stop at 12 noon. Go to the loo before boarding especially if you are getting on at the first pick up.

Make sure you bring a hat and lather yourself with sunscreen. I always go on about this but at last week’s home match just half an hour in the sun left me looking crisp and like a lobster (what a wally). The way the weather is at the moment rain jackets maybe more appropriate. We all know it changes quickly and the sun will show its face.

Don’t forget to bring plenty of cash for the raffle onboard the ferry. Jacci and Lorraine will be hunting you down on the ferry. This will be your best chance ever to win as we have heaps of prizes for just a small amount of people.

A bus will pick up fans in Costa Teguise on Saturday 11^th at 11.15am at Apartamentos Nazaret bus stop. The bus will then go to Ciudad Deportiva in Arrecife and will depart there at 11.30am which will be followed by the stop at Biosfera Shopping centre in Puerto Del Carmen leaving at 12 noon. We will then make our way down to the port in Playa Blanca and leave on the 1.15pm ferry.

On arriving in Corralejo we will then rejoin the bus and travel the 45-minute journey to the stadium in Puerto Del Rosario. After the match its back on the bus with the three points for the return journey with the ferry departing at 8pm. Once back on the Island of the Volcanoes the bus will return to its original pick-up points.

The cost of the trip is €25 for residents (€20 for children aged 4 to 11yrs) and €60 for non-residents (€40 for children aged 4 to 11yrs). The price includes bus transportation in Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, as well as round-trip ferry tickets. Fans must purchase their match tickets at the Los Pozos Municipal Stadium ticket office which is usually 5 or 6 Euros.

Tickets for this excursion can be purchased from the club’s headquarters in Arrecife, located at Calle El Isleño, 4, open Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 6-8pm. Tickets can also be purchased by cash only at our Merchandise shop in Costa Teguise at CC Nautical, Local 25 (behind Café Oppa) on Wednesday from 10am to 1pm and also from 5-7pm. On Thursday the shop will be open from 10am to 1pm only. As soon as the bus fills we cannot sell anymore so get them as soon as possible.

WHAT YOU NEED TO BRING:

Residents must provide a photocopy of their national identity card (DNI), and non-residents a photocopy of their valid identification document (NIE or Passport). At the club you can pay by cash or card but at the shop it is only cash.

As normal we will do our raffle on the journey which will include signed shirts, Two tickets for the The Outdoor Cinema at Rooftops, meals for two at Gallaghers and also Bollywoods Indian restaurant in Puerto Calero, Breakfast for two and heaps of other prizes. As always, I do ask if anyone can contribute to prizes such as a breakfast, meal or a bottle of booze. All prizes will be gratefully accepted.
