The league season in Lanzarote´s division only met its conclusion last week when CD Tenerife B lost 1-0 in the playoff final in Madrid to U.E. Olot. Not only has CD Tenerife B failed in its bid for promotion but because of this fellow Tenerife side CD Buzanada has also been relegated.

This means a total of seven sides in a 17 team league have been relegated. Many clubs in the Canarian Islands and in the mainland have complained to the Spanish Football Federation about the viciousness of the relegation system this season but because of new league structuring their complaints have fallen on deaf ears.

The restructuring of the Spanish league system will need its own explaining but I will do that another day but what it does mean is that Lanzarote were in the fourth tier but now it is the fifth tier. The only promoted side this season is CD Atlético Paso and the La Palma side will be the only Canarian club representing the islands in the fourth tier of Spanish football.

Today is Canarian Day and it is a public holiday on the islands (Dia de Canarias) and processions will be taking place with Canarians and residents dressing up in traditional dress to enjoy festivities.

The two biggest football clubs in the Canary Islands are CD Tenerife and UD Las Palmas from Gran Canaria. Both of these teams have had brilliant seasons in the Segunda Division (Championship 2nd Tier) and have finished the league season in the playoff positions.

As it happens an extra celebration for Canarian Day will take place this Wednesday (1st June) when these teams meet in the semi-final 1st Leg in Tenerife with the second Leg in Las Palmas on Saturday (4th June) both at 8pm.

This is as an intense derby rivalry that would compare to anywhere. There is no love lost between these two sides and these two games will be the most important matches for both clubs in their recent history with a place in the final up for grabs and the chance for a Golden ticket to compete in Spain´s La Liga.

Lanzarote is part of the district of Las Palmas so the vast majority of Conejeros (Lanzaroteans) will be supporting Las Palmas including me. Many Rojillo supporters will never forget how thousands of Las Palmas fans came to support UD Lanzarote when Primera Liga side Sevilla refused to play in Lanzarote because of the artificial turf in the Copa Del Rey match in 2003.

The game was held in Las Palmas with over 3000 Lanzarote fans making the journey by plane or boat then a further 4000 Las Palmas supporters cheered on the Rojillos in an incredible atmosphere but a cross from the late José Antonio Reyes finished off by Brazilian international Julio Baptista in the 13th minute gave the Primera Liga side a 1-0 victory.

UD LANZAROTE JUNIOR SIDES AND B TEAM 2021/22

Many of us fans just follow the clubs first team however the junior sides are so important to the club to harvest young talent for the future. This season all the junior teams and the B side have performed superbly to help make it a memorable season.

UD Lanzarote has a total of 12 teams and also a junior football school for children between the ages of 4-7 years. These boys and girls do not have competitive matches but they do play friendly games to give them a taste of what’s in store to see if they wish to continue football as a sport.

The 4-7 year old’s getting a taste of competitive football.

In most of the junior B sides the children are usually one year younger than the A team.

BENJAMIN A (Under 8 years)

They are currently in second spot in the highest league for this age group on the island and have only lost once this season. Should they win their final match on Saturday 21st May they will be Champions of the 13 team league. https://futbolaspalmas.com/benjamin-preferente-lanzarote/

BENJAMIN B (Under 8 Years)

The B side played in Group 2 of the league below the first team and finished their season in 7th position out of 9 teams. https://futbolaspalmas.com/benjamin-primera-grupo-dos-lanzarote/

ALEVIN A (Under 10 Years)

The first team is currently in 2nd spot in the 14 team league but has one match remaining this Saturday 21st May and a big win against the side which has conceded the most goals this season would see them be Champions. https://futbolaspalmas.com/alevin-preferente-lanzarote/

ALEVIN B (Under 10 Years)

Lanzarote have been very strong in this age category this season and the B side won the 11 team league by 9 points to become Champions. https://futbolaspalmas.com/alevin-primera-grupo-dos-lanzarote/

INFANTIL A (Under 13s)

It was neck and neck with Maritima A team all season and even though Lanzarote only lost one match they could only finish in 2nd position three points behind Maritima. https://futbolaspalmas.com/1infantillanzarote/resultados-infantil-preferente-lanzarote.html

INFANTIL B (Under 13s)

The B side were the league’s second top scorers but still finished in 4th place in the 12 team league. They are currently playing the cup matches. https://futbolaspalmas.com/infantil-primera-grupo-uno-lanzarote/

CADETE A (UNDER 15s)

Lanzarote first team captain Ayoze Pérez is the coach of the under 15s first team. They are having a great season and won their group and are now doing well in the playoffs beating Yaiza in the semi-final first leg 1-4 and play the second leg this Saturday 21st at 6pm in Arrecife. Should they progress and win the final they will be promoted to the Inter island league playing the best teams from Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote. https://futbolaspalmas.com/1cadetelanzarote/

CADETE B (Under 15s)

The B team ended their season in a respectable 4th spot in the 10 team league. https://futbolaspalmas.com/1cadetelanzarote2/

JUVENIL A (UNDER 18s)

The first team played in the interisland league and finished in 6th position in the 14 team league. https://futbolaspalmas.com/1juvenilinterinsular/

JUVENIL B (UNDER 18s)

There are still three matches remaining for the B team and they are currently in 7th position in the 17 team league but realistically the best they can finish would be in 6th place. https://futbolaspalmas.com/1juvenillanzarote/

REGIONAL (UD Lanzarote B team)

The B team over the last 10 years or so was one of the teams that the club had to sacrifice on certain years because of poor finances so have not been consistently in the league. This season has shown just how important it is to have that B side because the first team has had an unbelievable season blighted with injuries and many of the young players have had a taste of playing in the first team.

The B team had a poor start to their season but came on strong late on and on the final day had a chance of making the playoffs. They did all they could by winning 4-0 but they needed 3rd placed side Maritima to beat 4th placed Tinajo but Tinajo claimed that final playoff position with a 1-2 win. https://futbolaspalmas.com/1regionallanzarote/resultados-primera-regional-lanzarote.html

LATEST NEWS

Whilst UD Lanzarote´s first team avoided relegation dozens of other clubs in the same tier as Lanzarote within all of Spain are complaining about how the relegation system has been dictated this season and are ordering a review on how many teams should be relegated.

In Lanzarote´s league six sides have already been relegated and one other side, CD Buzanada will know their fate this weekend. They will be hoping that CD Tenerife B will win the playoff final and are promoted. If they lose then fellow Canarian side CD Buzanada will be relegated.

A 1-0 defeat against relegation rivals CD Buzanada on the 17th April left Lanzarote in the relegation positions and with two matches remaining they had to win both and still rely on the results of other sides.

A passionate 1-0 home win was followed by a 1-4 away win and Lanzarote had moved up to 9th spot in the 17 team league and had done everything that was possible. In most years one would have thought that this was safe but because of the restructuring of the league it was possible that seven teams instead of four could face relegation and only by finishing no lower than 11th would ensure safety.

Six sides have already been relegated which includes the bottom five and also second placed side UD Las Palmas C. Their B team has been relegated from the league above so they automatically drop a division as no club can have two teams in the same league.

The possible 7th club to be relegated is CD Buzanada. They will have an anxious wait hoping that the playoff semi-final winners of either CD Tenerife B or UD Villa Santa Brígida on the 15th May will beat a mainland side in the playoff final. If one of these teams is promoted then CD Buzanada will have a stay of execution and remain in the Tercera Division, if not they are relegated.

Lanzarote had already played their final league game so they could only sit and hope that out of four matches being played only two teams could leapfrog Lanzarote otherwise it would be a catastrophe.

It went down to the wire. CD Marino and UD Gran Tarajal won with ease so Lanzarote were in 11th and could not drop lower and everything depended on the other two matches. The news came through that CD Atlético Paso beat and relegated Fuerteventura side CD Herbania 0-1 to proclaim themselves Champions and claim the only automatic promotion position. CD Buzanada won their final match 3-1 but needed to win by four clear goals so are now in 12th spot awaiting the result of the playoff final. Most importantly Lanzarote were safe.

HOW THE SEASON UNFOLDED

In the opening eight matches of the season the Rojillos were beaten only once and were up to 3rd spot, then on the 24th October they had one of their worst displays of the season losing in the final minute 0-1 at home in the important derby match versus U.S. Yaiza and in those following four matches could only pick up a single point and were down to 9th.

On the run up to Christmas and in the first match of the New Year the Rojillos beat league leaders UD Las Palmas C 1-0 picking up 11 points out of a possible 15 and were once again flying high in 4th position.

During the January transfer window the club knew that they needed to boost their fire power and brought in three strikers, Di Renzo, Traoré and Pacheco. Di Renzo scored on his debut against UD Gran Tarajal in a match Lanzarote dominated but the Fuerteventura levelled deep into injury time with just 10 men and the Rojillos dropped an easy two points.

Prior to this match Lanzarote´s most exciting player was the 19 year old Brazilian Alyson but he couldn’t play in that match due to a muscle strain. Everyone thought that he may be out for a couple of weeks but that was not to be the case. Coming in at only 5ft 4 inches (1.65m) and barely a featherweight, his pace was frightening and strength deceiving. This injury was to prove pivotal as the teenager was sidelined for three months. To make matters worse the exciting new winger Traoré picked up an injury a week later and played less than 60 minutes for the rest of the season. Never once did Alyson, Traoré and Di Renzo play together as was the plan.

Alyson was out for the best part of 3 months and his return helped the club to avoid relegation.

Every club over the course of the season has injury problems but in all my years being involved with the Rojillos I had never seen it so bad. Defensively Lanzarote were outstanding but it was evident that the problem lay in front of goal.

Many fans of course were frustrated and manager Mateo García came in for some heavy criticism however he could only pick the players at his disposal. In one match he was forced to give three junior players their debut with a fourth junior already on the pitch having played his first match the previous week. Even though these young lads had the passion they were no match for any of the leagues experienced sides and Lanzarote could not score a goal for love nor money.

UD Lanzarote manager Mateo García came in for heavy criticism but his end of season gamble paid off.

The injury situation was also compounded with so many refereeing decisions going against the Rojillos. I may seem biased but anyone who has followed the club this season will understand that at no point during the campaign did Lanzarote gain any advantage from the officials.

This was epitomized during a home game against the future league Champions CD Atlético Paso. In a wonderful entertaining match Lanzarote scored and believed that they had taken the lead in the 77th minute. The referee and his assistant both pointed to the centre awarding the goal but following complaints from the visitors the referee, five and a half minutes later overturned his decision and cancelled the goal for offside. It was a bizarre call and totally blew away the myth that you can never change the referee’s mind.

In five games Lanzarote could only score two goals and with the defeat away to relegation rivals CD Buzanada the Rojillos were in dire trouble as they slipped into the bottom four with two games remaining.

Manager Mateo García gambled on playing Alyson and fellow striker Di Renzo who had been out for two weeks with a hamstring injury. The under fire Lanzarote managers gamble paid off with maximum points in those final two games as Lanzarote survived relegation on goal difference but also incredibly only four points adrift from the playoffs.

Brazilian defender Matheus deservedly won Player of the Season. The Lanzarote centre back along with the rest of the defence were superb throughout the season and only conceded 24 goals, the next best defence were the league Champions CD Atlético Paso with 27 goals against.

A bizarre season has come to an end but there is much work to do within the club. For two years the local authorities have imposed the toughest restrictions on Lanzarote compared to any other side in the league.

The club does not own the stadium and have to abide by the rules set from the authorities, this included not been able to open up our food and drinks canteen. The revenue including gate money lost from this was a battle the club should never have had, the club had tried everything in its power to remedy the situation but their pleas fell on deaf ears. Hopefully over the next couple of months a solution will be found.

The season normally begins in late August with the fixtures usually being released late July or early August.

In the next few days I will update how all the other teams within UD Lanzarote have fared this season. I hope that you all have a great summer.

The shop in Costa Teguise at CC Nautical, Local 25 remains open Monday to Friday 10am to 1pm and also on Wednesday at 5pm-7pm. The stall at the Teguise market is also there every Sunday between 10am to 2pm.

On Sunday afternoon after a hellish wait to see if UD Lanzarote remained in the Tercera Division the wonderful news filtered through that Lanzarote had survived.

The President of the club Juan Carlos Albuixech sent out an impromptu message to his players, management and directors to come and join him for drinks on the terrace at his Mai Tai Bar at The Sands Beach Hotel in Costa Teguise.

It was more of a relief than a celebration, however needing two wins from your final two games and still depending on some results to go your way which it did, this seriously warranted a beer or two to celebrate.

On Tuesday evening players, management and the directors were once again invited for a buffet and drinks at Sands Beach to say farewell to this campaign.

In the coming days I will write a brief review of the season but congratulations must be mentioned now to the Champions of this league CD Atlético Paso who are the only side guaranteed promotion. This is truly a remarkable feat for the La Palma side especially as they had to endure three months of volcanic eruptions which turned their lives upside down.

Bravo La Palma and CD Atlético Paso!!!

UD Lanzarote played their final match of the season in a 1-4 away win versus Gran Canarian side CF Unión Viera on Wednesday and have moved up to 9th spot however they will not know until Sunday if this was enough to avoid relegation.

The Rojillos went into this match knowing that anything other than victory would mean that they would almost certainly face the drop. The Lanzarote frontline of Di Renzo, Alyson and Adrían Machín ran rings around the home defence with two goals from Alyson and a goal apiece for the other two players.

In any other time one would think that a side in mid table would have been safe, however even with Covid set in decline, the effects of the pandemic will continue in many areas of life including football for some time.

The Spanish Football Federation overall have been sensible over the past two years keeping the league going introducing new systems in an attempt to be fair to all clubs. Unfortunately one aspect where I believe that they have failed is that all teams on the final day of the season should kick off at the same time. This must be mandatory.

Due to only 17 teams in the league this was impossible and meant that each week one team had a free week. Lanzarote´s free week fell on the final round of games so whilst every other club will kick off on Sunday at 12 Lanzarote will be anxiously watching updates on how rival teams are fairing.

Surely the unluckiest of teams must be current league leaders UD Las Palmas C because even if they win on Sunday they are 99% certain to be relegated because their B side is very likely to be relegated from the league above. Obviously two teams from the same club cannot be in the same league so the C team pay the price for the failings of their B side and drop a division.

Five teams will be relegated from the league above (Segunda B) and with three games remaining the five Canarian sides are all in those relegation positions. Two are already down and another two sides will need a miracle to remain in that league.

Only CD Mensajero has a realistic chance of survival as they are one point not from safety but from a playoff to avoid relegation. Should they survive in Segunda B then one less team in Lanzarote´s league would be relegated so the team finishing 12th in Lanzarote´s league has an outside chance of survival.

At this moment seven teams will be relegated with UD Las Palmas C, UD Las Zocas, CF Unión Viera and SD Tenisca already gone. There are three teams remaining who are likely to be relegated and they are between six clubs; UD Lanzarote, CD Marino, CD Buzanada, CD Vera, CD Herbania and UD Gran Tarajal.

Lanzarote are in 9th spot and must not finish lower than 11th. CD Marino trail Lanzarote by two points and are away at relegated CF Unión Viera so a win looks likely which would put them above Lanzarote.

CD Buzanada trail Lanzarote by 3 points and only a 4-0 win against league leaders UD Las Palmas C would see them reach relative safety. Fourth from bottom side CD Vera face relegation rivals UD Gran Tarajal and they will be fighting for a win which could lift them up to 12th and then they would have to hope CD Mensajero don’t get relegated from Segunda B. Gran Tarajal just need a point from this match to guarantee safety.

One of the most interesting games involves CD Herbania who began the season storming the league with three wins and looked a good bet for a playoff spot up until only a couple of weeks ago. They now find themselves in that final safety position of 11th.

The Fuerteventura side are at home but face second placed team CD Atlético Paso and this is an absolute crunch match. The La Palma team have everything to play for because if they win they will be promoted in the only automatic promotion position available and this would leave CD Herbania needing a calculator to see if they survive.

It is quite complicated however also quite logical with the exception of every side finishing their season on the same day at the same time.

Lanzarote looked destined for relegation two weeks ago but two wins in their final two matches has given them hope of a reprieve, now they must sit and wait until all the results have filtered through about 2pm this Sunday.

Up until Sunday SD Tenisca were the only side in Spain to have never been relegated from the Tercera Division. The La Palma side has suffered problems this season especially from September until December during the volcanic eruptions on their island. Many of their matches were cancelled because of this and their fixture list became heavily congested and this is one of several reasons why their 43 years in Spain’s fourth tier has come to an end.

Before kickoff defender Matheus was awarded Player of the Season by the fans and was presented with the trophy from last season’s winner and Rojillo legend Rosmen along with club director David Timmons.

Brazilian centre back Matheus being awarded his trophies as the fans Player of the Season from Rosmen and son along with David Timmons.

The game was decided by a single goal and fittingly it was scored by the Rojillo captain Ayoze Pérez who rolled back the years and put in a man of the match master class performance guiding his side to victory.

The possession of the ball in the opening stages was fairly even but it was the Rojillos who created the better chances. In the 13th minute defender Raúl had a snapshot from 10 yards but the ball agonizingly went inches wide of the bottom right hand post.

It’s been no secret that Lanzarote´s problems this season has been scoring goals. All the main strikers have been injured with Traore and Alyson being out for several months. Before kickoff centre forward Di Renzo had a late fitness test following his hamstring injury and he was named in the starting line up alongside the exciting Brazilian teenager Alyson.

This was a gamble from the Lanzarote manager and fortunately the luck that had been eluding him for months returned for the final home match of the season as his gamble paid dividends. In the 18th minute both players combined setting up a strike for Alyson but his effort cleared the crossbar by a foot or two, nevertheless it was great to see the front two players creating an opportunity and causing huge concern in the La Palma defence.

Livewire Alyson was a constant threat to the La Palma defence and in the 37th minute he skipped past a defender but his strike at goal from the edge of the area was blocked. Quickest to react was Ayoze Pérez and he fired a left foot shot wide of the Tenisca keeper to score one of his most important goals ever whilst wearing the Lanzarote shirt. This priceless goal sent his team into the break with the 1-0 advantage.

Lanzarote were desperate to find that second goal cushion and only three minutes into the second period and they had a glorious chance to do so. Dani González fired the ball low across the penalty area from the right, Alyson just failed to connect though Miguel Gopar came in at the far post and from 12 yards blasted a low strike which the keeper saved with his feet.

Shortly after, the visitors unusually caught the Rojillo defence napping. From a deep corner kick unmarked at the far post was Matías but to the relief to most people in the stadium his volley went narrowly past the near post.

Tenisca were in the same situation as Lanzarote knowing that only a win would give them any chance of remaining in this division and began to take risks.

Lanzarote may have had their troubles in front of goal this season but their defence is the best in the league conceding the least amount of goals than any other club. The Rojillos looked reasonably comfortable and one did feel that it was only a matter of time until Lanzarote would hit them on the break and score that second goal.

In the 81st minute the La Palma side were awarded a free kick only 20 yards out from the Rojillo goal. The ball was hit with power and bend by striker Adán and looked destined to nestle into the top left hand corner. Keeper Ruymán was at full stretch and superbly managed to get a strong hand to the ball to maintain his sides lead as well as keeping his side in the Tercera division.

With just minutes remaining Lanzarote were awarded a corner kick. Ayoze Pérez characteristically whipped the ball in the six yard box, Matheus timed his run to perfection and beat the keeper to the ball powering his header into the roof of the net and looked to have given his side a 2-0 lead. For some unknown reason the referee blew for a foul on the keeper, a decision which I am sure that the official will be embarrassed with after watching a replay as Matheus did not touch the Tenisca goalkeeper.

There were four painful minutes of added on time by the official but then finally that beautiful sound of the final whistle filled the air and you could just sense that the heartbeat from the Lanzarote supporters once again begin to tick.

This is a wonderful win but Lanzarote now must travel to Gran Canaria on Wednesday where they will face the already relegated side CF Unión Viera at 8.30pm. Even a win for the Rojillos will not guarantee safety as in the Spanish lower leagues promotion and relegations are not straightforward.

Lanzarote have moved out of the automatic relegation positions and up two places to 12th spot. Currently there are five Canarian sides in the relegation positions in the league above and if they were all relegated then more teams would drop from Lanzarote´s league. This could be eased if any of the teams in the playoffs were promoted and there are also other circumstances which may only be resolved once the playoffs have finished.

It is quite possible that six teams will be relegated and Lanzarote are currently that sixth team from the bottom. The two teams directly above Lanzarote CD Marino and UD Villa Santa Brígida have matches that they should win.

The side that does look vulnerable is 9th placed side CD Herbania. Up until last week the Fuerteventura side looked a good bet for a playoff spot but in this tipsy topsy league they now go into their last match needing a win to guarantee safety. They have home advantage but they are up against CD Atlético Paso who will be desperate for a win to claim the only automatic promotion position. Should this game end in a draw and Lanzarote win then the Rojillos would move above them. Both sides will be looking for the win.

It’s a fascinating end to the league season but the only thing Lanzarote will be concerned about is a win on Wednesday evening beginning at 8.30pm. I will be at this match and updating the score on Facebook page Lanzarote football club as the game progresses.

GOALS

1-0 min 37 Ayoze Pérez

The Rojillos are fourth from bottom and will be playing SD Tenisca that are one position and one point below Lanzarote in the league. This is a real relegation scrap between two historical sides.

SD Tenisca are the oldest football club in the island of La Palma and are the longest serving side in Spain to remain in this division having been there since 1979.

Lanzarote were relegated from Segunda B (Third Tier) in 2010 and since then have been in the Tercera Division (Fourth Tier). The last time Lanzarote played in the league below (Regional Preferente) was in 1994-95 when the Rojillos were promoted as Champions.

Both sides will be fighting for their lives. A loss or a draw for either team will almost certainly spell relegation. This season the relegation positions are extremely complicated. The bottom four will be relegated but there could be a total of seven sides facing the drop.

This depends on several outcomes, firstly how many Canarian sides are relegated from the league above. At this moment all five are in the five relegation positions and it would be in our interests if one or two could escape. This would reduce the amount of sides relegated from our division.

CD Mensajero led by Rojillos manager from last season Josu Uribe is in the best position and his side are just one point from safety with four matches remaining. Secondly, should UD Las Palmas B be relegated from the league above then their C team who are the current league leaders will automatically be relegated which would also be beneficial to Lanzarote´s plight.

Finally, if any of the Canarian teams in our division are promoted via the playoffs then this would also help. The fewer teams in Lanzarote´s league then the fewer sides face relegation.

It is all incredibly complex but the fact remains if Lanzarote remain fourth from bottom then they are going down. Even if Lanzarote win both of their remaining matches they could still face relegation however I doubt that would be the case.

Lanzarote´s final match of the season is away in Gran Canaria on Wednesday 27th April at 8.30pm. Should the Rojillos win this Sunday then the motivation for a win on the final day will be at an all time high, especially as the team that they face CF Unión Viera are second from bottom and doomed for relegation.

Our superb Brazilian centre back Matheus has won “Player of the Season” voted for by the clubs fans. He will be presented the trophy by last season’s winner and Lanzarote legend Rosmen before the 12.30 kickoff at this Sunday’s game.

The Rojillos have had a difficult season however their defence has been the best in the entire division. Our fans have clearly recognized this with the top three players being either a defender or a goalkeeper.

THE TOP 5 PLAYERS VOTED FOR BY THE FANS ARE:

MATHEUS 51 votes (14.78%)

RAÚL 40 votes (11.59%)

ALEJANDRO 27 votes (7.83%)

AYOZE PÉREZ 26 votes (7.5%)

         KEITA 26 votes (7.5%)

The rest of the votes were as follows:

(Alyson 24) – (Gopar, Adrián Machín and Ruymán all 18) – (Dani 17) – (Rodrigo 15) – (Aythami 14) – (Kevin Lemes 9) – (Di Renzo and Leo Márquez both 8 ) – (Traoré and Bili both 7)- (Rubén Martín 5) – (Thioub 4) – (Pacheco 3). Each person voted for their top five players with one point for each vote. There were a total of 345 votes in total.

Many thanks to UD Lanzarote fans Jacci and Kevin Doherty who counted the votes and also a big thank you to British fan Brian Barnett who once again handmade the memento for player of the season, which Matheus will keep.

This Sunday 24th April at 12 noon Lanzarote play their final home match of the season versus SD Tenisca and entrance for everybody is free of charge.

The Rojillos are seriously threatened with relegation but if they can snatch maximum points from their two remaining games then there is a great chance of survival. The club has decided to not charge and is hoping as many fans as possible will turn up and be that 12th man so the Rojillos can take it to the last day.

The final two matches are against teams in a worse situation than UD Lanzarote. On Sunday the visitors are La Palma side SD Tenisca and they are one position and one point below Lanzarote so defeat for either side will almost certainly mean relegation.

The final match will be a game that was originally postponed due to Covid and a date has yet to be set. The opponents are Gran Canarian side CF Unión Viera and they are second from bottom and are 99% relegated already and will only have pride left to play for. Should Lanzarote win this Sunday then the motivation for that final match would be at boiling point.

COME AND SUPPORT THE ROJILLOS AND MAKE IT A DAY TO REMEMBER!

The Rojillos drop into the automatic relegation zone following this defeat in Tenerife. The locals scored early to make it five wins out of six and move up to the safety of 10th whilst Lanzarote stare relegation in the face.

Lanzarote´s position is dire. Not only do the bottom four teams get relegated but because five Canarian sides are in the relegation zone in the league above it means that if they are all relegated a further three teams from Lanzarote´s league will join the four that are already down making it a total of seven teams to face the drop.

It’s still not impossible. On one of the few positive notes the final two games are against teams in a worse situation than the Rojillos. Should Lanzarote get maximum points from these last two matches they will still be relying on other teams but they would have a fighting chance of survival.

Lanzarote´s final home match of the season is Sunday 24th April versus SD Tenisca at 12 noon. The La Palma side are one position and one point behind Lanzarote so defeat for either side would almost certainly spell relegation. Even a draw and both sides would be doomed.

The only thing that Lanzarote´s fans can do is to get behind their side and win this match to take it to the final game.
