The shirt has been designed with the help of four people, myself, Brad (Lanzarote´s midfielder), my wife Anna and UK resident and Lanzarote holidaymaker Nico Neeks Dal Pozzo who was a major factor helping us with setting up the design.

I first met Nico at the Teguise Sunday market a few years ago when he bought a shirt and he and his dad joined me in going to watch UD Lanzarote play. I can sometimes be in a dodgy mood on Sundays as I get up at 5.15am to prepare the market stall at Teguise then endure the stress of preparing for a Lanzarote game. On top of that I had a stiff neck so I definitely wasn’t in the best of moods.

On the way down to the match I mentioned to Nico that I was looking to do a new design of the Lanzarote shirt and Nico said he would give it a crack. I don’t think he realised how difficult a job it was going to be. His patience was exemplary and after two years of swapping and changing and producing several sample shirts we came up with the end product.

To say that we are happy with the end product would be an understatement. The quality is second to none, on many shirts print will peel off but this has not happened to any Lanzarote shirt in years. We have added a unique extra and that is an outline picture of one of Lanzarote´s most famous volcanoes, La Caldera de los Cuervos (Ravens Crater) as well as embroided also on the back of the shirt Isla de los Volcanes.

I may be wrong but I do not believe any other shirt has a similar design. I feel extremely proud to be working alongisde UD Lanzarote and producing their replica kits and merchandise for the past 11 years. This is our fourth shirt during that period meaning we always keep the same design for at least two seasons but sometimes three.

During that time I have met so many great people who were or have become Rojillo fans. Many of these people are not just fans, the likes of Carole and Angela Spendley who help out with the raffle, escort the children on the pitch as mascots and so much more. Our German fan Frank who attended every game home and away last season and also donating 1000 Euros for the clubs cause for this season outlines his commitment.

If you do want to be a little different to the millions wearing a Messi or Ronaldo shirt then this is the shirt for you as you will certainly get noticed. There won’t be many people on your home turf that have a UD Lanzarote shirt.

The first shirt sold at Teguise market was to 10 year old Jake who prefers Brad to Messi.

The new Jersey is now available from Teguise Sunday market, Friday Puerto del Carmen market and Marina Rubicon market in Playa Blanca on Wednesdays and Saturdays. All markets are from 10am to 2pm. Also available at all home matches. The kits are available in the traditional three colours. Home, red and blue, away, white and blue and the third strip, pink and white. All the shirts are available in 11 different sizes starting from age 1-3 years up to extreme beer belly size.

The tournament consists of four teams, CD Tinajo, U.S. Yaiza, Haria CF and UD Lanzarote.

All games are played at the football stadium in Tinajo where it can be quite fresh in the evenings so it is wise to take a jumper with you. Refreshments are available at the club bar and entrance is normally 5 Euros.

Any youngsters wishing to participate with the team whether they wish to train or have photos with the players will be welcomed.

The first team squad will be showing off the clubs three new shirts. The home red and blue, away white and blue and the third kit pink and white. There is a very interesting new design on the shirt which is definitely unique to Lanzarote.

The new shirts will be available the following day at the clubs stall at the Sunday Teguise market (near the public toilets) from 10am to 2pm. The prices of the shirts remain the same. Don’t forget you can also pick up your abono card (season ticket) at the market.

The Rojillos (The Reds) played their first friendly on Wednesday night versus CD Tahiche which ended in a 2-2 draw with new striker Javi Trujillo demonstrating his class scoring two exquisite goals.

Sales of season tickets are going well. As you can see Lanzarote´s most famous fan Antonio was one of the first to buy his pensioners season ticket and of course paid the extra five Euros to become a Socio (member).

Antonio vows this season not to be as lenient on the officials and has been practising this summer to hurl his abuse to a new level. Season tickets are available from me at Teguise market on Sundays or drop me a line and we will find a way of getting it to you. Alternatively they are available at the club from Davinia in the office between 6-8pm Monday till Friday. 50 Euros adults, 25 Euros Pensioners, 18yrs and under are admitted for free.

The players returned for Pre season training on the 20^th July and the first friendly match is tonight Wednesday 26^th July at the Teguise football stadium at 8pm versus CD Tahiche first team.

On Saturday 29^th July at 7pm all of the UD Lanzarote´s  first team squad will be on the beach in Puerto Del Carmen (Playa Grande, 100 yards up the Avenida from Los Fariones Hotel and Linekers Bar, just above the public beach toilets) for their annual beach training session. Youngsters are more than welcome to train and have photos with the players as the entire squad will be having their photos promoting the new 2017/18 kit.

The San Ginés tournament will take place on the 3^rd, 4^th and 5^th August at our home football stadium in Arrecife at times and fixtures to be confirmed. The three teams involved are Segunda B side (League 1) Las Palmas B and a side that was narrowly relegated from Segunda B last season CD Mensajero and UD Lanzarote

The annual Tinajo tournament held in Tinajo (take a jumper) is on the 11^th and 12^th August with four teams competing, newly promoted CF Haria, U.S. Yaiza, CD Tinajo and UD Lanzarote. Times of matches will be confirmed closer to the date.

Fun and games on the beach in Puerto Del Carmen this Saturday 29th July at 7pm.

The San Bartolome mini tournament involving CD San Bartolome, CD Tahiche and UD Lanzarote will be on Tuesday 15^th August. That following Sunday 20^th August the league will commence. Unfortunately fixtures have not been released but are due anytime now and will be posted asap.

The league will consist of 21 teams as CF Haria and La Palma side Los Llanos have both been promoted even though that was a final playoff match and only one team should have been promoted. It is a very complicated situation but Los Llanos fielded a player who was only recently signed. Haria lost the playoff final but appealed to the football Federation and a mistake by the Federation forced them to promote both sides.

UD Lanzarote has lost many players from last season including British boy Louis Kennedy who has moved to U.S. Yaiza but fellow British player midfielder Brad Cockerill remains with the club.

An interesting player to look out for is 19 year old Gaston Cedrez. The attacking midfielder/winger is on loan from Las Palmas and was previously contracted with the youth academy at Atlético Madrid before transferring to giants Real Madrid. He is looking sharp in training and is hoping to get his career back on track.

New manager Maxi Barrera and the club directors have had a busy summer up to now. The Rojillos have signed four players from neighbours Yaiza with the league’s second top scorer Alex Yunes probably being the pick of the bunch. Centre back Kamara is also another great signing.

Goalkeeper and player of the year two seasons ago Agoney has left the club and junior keeper Sasha Roche will be playing second fiddle to Alejandro.

Probably the biggest surprise is British boy Louis Kennedy being released from the club after his five year stint with the Rojillos. The gifted left winger is just 23 years of age and was one of the few players from last season who could still hold his head up high. There is no doubt the left winger will have many offers from other clubs in the Tercera Division. Fellow British player Brad Cockerill will once again be wearing the red and blue of Lanzarote.

Others to leave the club include Javi Navarro, Fran Gil whilst club captain Rosmen has retired. Other players continue to negotiate new contracts and this will be updated in due course.

Next season there will be three Lanzarote sides playing in the Tercera Division in the Canary Islands with C.F. Haria incredibly gaining promotion for the first time in their history to Spain’s fourth tier of football.

The small village club led by their inspirational veteran midfielder Vladi gained promotion in strange circumstances. Haria lost the playoff final, however due to a mistake in regulations the La Palma side Los Llanos played the match with a player who did not have a valid contract, however both clubs appealed and both sides are now promoted so next season there will be 21 teams in the league.

Pre season will commence around the 20^th July with friendlies to be announced however the main tournament San Gines played in Arrecife will be on 3,4,5^th August with the tournament in Tinajo due to be on 10,11,12^th August ending with the San Bartolomé tournament commencing on the 15^th August.

The opening match of the season will be on 20^th August however fixtures will not be released until late July. Season tickets are not available as yet but as soon as they are I will post information.

Unión Deportiva Lanzarote unveiled their new manager for the forthcoming season on Wednesday evening Maxi Barerra.

Máximo Jesús Barrera Santos maybe young but he has already had several years of managing in the Tercera Division (fourth tier). In 2011/12 season he debuted in the Tercera Division with CD San Pedro Martir after gaining promotion with the same club the year before.

The 36 year old manager from Gran Canaria has also been the manager of UD Villa Santa Brígida and had a very successful time with his last club UD San Fernando both in the Tercera Division.

Lanzarote´s new coach said that he was very excited about becoming the Rojillos first team manager and will head into the 2017-18 season knowing that he has a lot of responsibility but has no nerves or pressure and will play the style of football that he enjoys. He likes his teams to keep the ball and try and control the game.

Club president José Domingo Machín and club secretary Domingo Gil had both agreed the day previous to carry on with the club for the next four years wished the best of luck to Maxi and hoped he could return the club back into Segunda B (League 1).

The Lanzarote manager Adolfo Pérez has decided to seek pastures new and informed the club of his decision some time ago to step down and end his reign as the clubs longest serving manager.

I had the pleasure of working alongside Adolfo 12 years ago when he first took over as manager with Lanzarote in the Segunda B (League 1) and fighting off relegation. The 32 year old local boy’s first game in charge was away to the mighty Las Palmas now in the Primera Liga. He organised his defence and earned a goalless draw to give his troops the confidence that they were lacking.

The Rojillos (The Reds) hadn’t achieved an away win for 20 months and Adolfo ended that horrible run and kept Lanzarote in Spain’s third league. The following season with his side in another relegation battle he was somewhat unfortunate to be removed of his duties and left the island to manage in La Palma.

Since Adolfo departed there had been many managers, three in one season on one occasion and I remember hearing rumours five years ago that Adolfo Pérez was going to return as manager. I didn’t know him that well but the vibe from others in the club was good.

The club at that time was in a terrible financial state with players taking months to get paid. He now leaves the club in a good financial condition and with the players paid up to date.

In the first of his five seasons the club finished a safe 14^th then 12^th before going on to become Sub Champions of the league for the next two years. During that time his side went over two seasons unbeaten on home soil though unfortunately the team failed to get promotion in the playoffs on both occasions.

This season expectations were high and the club did invest in several players with the one intention of promotion back to Segunda B. New signing and last season’s leading scorer in this division Dani López joined alongside the league’s second highest scorer and Lanzarote´s captain Rosmen.

Things began well with eight points in the first four matches with Dani López scoring on four occasions. Out of the blue the new striker decided to leave the club for personal reasons and a week later Rosmen suffered an injury which would keep him sidelined for three months.

The 43 home game unbeaten run was ended in dramatic style with new boys CD Buzanada winning 1-5. From then Lanzarote just couldn’t get it right and anything that could go wrong, did and Lanzarote crumbled.

Adolfo had decided to leave the club several months before the end of the season and I am sure he will be first to admit that he had made mistakes and ultimately he was the one responsible for not at least reaching the playoffs.

Some decisions that he made this season on releasing players from the club were met with some criticism but if you want to be Mr Popular then do not become a football manager.

I know Adolfo has made many friends during his second stint in charge and on behalf of the majority of UD Lanzarote fans I would like to thank him for all that he has done for the club over the last five years.

He has helped the club not only as the manager but behind the scenes in sponsorship and marketing, he definitely moved the club forward.

Nobody can doubt his love for UD Lanzarote and his passion for his native island and that is for sure. I have a sneaky suspicion in years to come the 44 year old may return afresh and once again take over the helm of the good ship UD Lanzarote.

After 13 seasons with Lanzarote and 566 games with all clubs in the Tercera Division (fourth tier) and Segunda B (League 1) totaling with 161 goals, the Lanzarote gentle giant will be hanging up his boots but not just yet.

Play off side U.D Villa Santa Brígida who finished the season in third position has just signed the Lanzarote striker until the end of the season. An injury to one of their forwards of the Gran Canarian club has allowed the club to sign our captain with the blessing of the President of U.D Lanzarote.

It is very difficult to describe Rosmen because I have not seen or do not know of any flaws. He is totally respected by all players, management and even works with children that have been abandoned. The 36 year old sets an example to all players with his determination, dedication and plain hard work.

If Rosmen does not possess enough qualities he is also super good looking and many of our female fans will be devastated that he has decided to call it a day.

On the first leg of the quarter final of the playoffs versus U.E. Alculdia Rosmen proved what a great investment he will be for Santa Brígida scoring the opening goal in the 60^th minute as his new side ran out 4-0 winners. The return leg in Majorca is on Friday 26^th May.
