SUMMER UPDATE, 30th June 2016.

U.D.Lanzarote failed in their bid for promotion to Segunda B (League 1) but still managed to finish in second place for the second consecutive year.

Manager Adolfo Pérez has not put pen to paper as yet to continue as Rojillos manager however the signs look good that he will extend his contract for at least another season.

Central midfielder and Lanzarote Legend Oscar Vladimir (Vladi) has decided to hang up his boots with Lanzarote though he may continue in his local town of Haría in lower levels of regional football.

<img aria-describedby="caption-attachment-2101" loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-2101" src="https://mercancialanzarote.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/A-big-smile-at-half-time-from-Oscar-Vladimir-after-his-wonder-strike.jpg" alt="Oscar Vladimir announcing his retirement from Spanish Third Division football.
All players are currently in talks with the club to continue wearing the red and blue of Lanzarote. Club captain and ladies heartthrob Rosmen has still to decide whether he will continue or retire from football. I know all you girls will be urging him to carry on.

Handsome dude on the left with Lanzarote’s captain Rosmen.

The club are in talks with Segunda B (League 1) striker Dani López. The 27 year old centre forward is a certainty to score goals. Over the past few seasons he has always been in the top three fighting for the “Pichichi” award (Top leading goalscorer).

Lanzarote’s central midfielder Brad Cockerill is regaining his fitness following his cruciate ligament operation and is set to return for pre season which is due to begin around the 20th July. You can come and see Brad throughout the summer at U.D.Lanzarote’s stall at Teguise market on Sunday’s and Puerto Del Carmen market on Friday’s, both from 10am until 2pm. Brad will be joined at the market with myself Ian and daughter Jessica.

LANZAROTE 1 ELCHE B 1, 29th May 2016.

Los Rojillos (The Reds) hopes of playing Segunda B (League 1) football ended early Sunday evening after failing to pull back a 2-0 deficit from the away leg.

The biggest crowd by some distance this season of between 3500-4000 souls turned up believing Lanzarote could win especially with their magnificent home record of not accepting defeat in 40 league matches and counting.

Lanzarote’s biggest crowd of the season. producing an exceptional atmosphere.

The atmosphere inside the ground was buzzing with Batucadas (Carnival bands) with their full array on instruments creating a special occasion.

Non stop rhythm from the Batucadas.

Just before kick off the UD Lanzarote President Machín with the Rojillos most famous fan Antonio presented goalkeeper Agoney with his Player of the Season Cup and trophy voted for by the fans. A trophy well deserved by this most humblest of men.

Lanzarote’s Player Of The Season Agoney having his trophy presented to him by President Machín and number one fan Antonio.

When club secretary Domingo Gil told the players who had won the award a few days previous, Agoney didn’t even know that there had been a vote as he doesn’t use Facebook. His surprise was a picture of shock and gratefulness. This top bloke raised his trophy to the fans which only ignited the atmosphere if that was possible. Lanzarote´s top five voted players this season are as follows:

1. Agoney

2. Miguel Gómez

3. Rosmen

4. Fran Gil

5. Mauri

Not a problem for the Villa fans as they are used to disappointment this season.

The game began at a predictably fast pace with Lanzarote looking to claw back the two goal disadvantage as early as possible.

Vladi and Mauri both had good chances to give The Rojillos the dream start they were craving but both opportunities failed to find the target.

Colombian striker Mauri searching for a way through a very stubborn defence.

In the 19th minute disaster struck as a mix up in the Lanzarote defence allowed Striker Nuha the chance to have a clean strike at goal from 12 yards. The tall centre forward who is on loan from Segunda Di vision A (Championship) side Llagostera is used to scoring in the playoffs as he did last season scoring the winning goal to promote his team. He looks as though he has a bright future ahead of him.

If Lanzarote were to progress now they would need to score four goals without reply. One could feel the numbness of the crowd as the silence was deafening. For the next 10 minutes Lanzarote were trying to get air back in their lungs after receiving this killer punch.

It may not be the result these lads were hoping for, nevertheless a great day out.

Old boys Vladi, Marcos Cabrera and Rosmen rallied their troops and gradually began to find their playing rhythm once more.

The home side finished the half in a flurry; Rosmen turned inside the box but could only see his strike come off the post and away to safety.

Rojillos manager Adolfo Pérez made two substitutions during the half time break bringing on Louis Kennedy and Ayoze Pérez replacing Fran Gil and Vladimir.

Rojillos manager Adolfo Pérez not lacking any passion.

Lanzarote had little choice but to play three at the back and hope for an early goal in the second half. Just a few minutes into the second period and it looked as though Adolfo’s gamble might just pay off. Kennedy broke through the centre and was one on one with the Elche goalkeeper, however the keeper stood tall till the last second and managed to get a hand on the ball preventing what would have been a certain goal.

British boy Kennedy coming ever so close to scoring early in the second half.

It wasn’t until the 67th minute that Lanzarote finally broke down the Elche defence. Winger Louis Kennedy crossed the ball from the right wing into the box and a quite unbelievable ankle height header from Rosmen was guided into the bottom left hand corner to level the score at 1-1.

A good performance from winger Toñito.

The Rojillos pressed forward but with just over 20 minutes remaining time was not on their side as they had to score three more goals to be in the draw for the next round of the playoffs.

La Peña Trifulkas (Fan club) never giving up.

The visitors came close to winning the match as winger Iván Agudo rounded the Lanzarote keeper Agoney but from a narrow angle struck the post.

Minutes later in the space of 30 seconds, Rosmen and Ayoze Pérez forced the Elche keeper to produce two excellent saves and then a shot from Miguel Gómez narrowly missed the top left corner with a strike on the edge of the box.

Time eventually ran out condemning Lanzarote to another year in the Tercera Division (FourthTier). Emotions ran high at the full time whistle with Toñito receiving a straight red card and players from both sides involved in a small scuffle in which the Police had to intervene.

Fans offering their sympathy at the end of the match.

Elche B have been drawn against Gran Canarian side Santa Brígida in the second round of the playoffs and judging by the quality of this youthful side they have every chance of promotion to the Segunda B (League 1).

GOALS

0-1 min 19 Nuha

1-1 min 67 Rosmen

QUARTER FINAL PLAY OFF Ist Leg, 22nd May 2016,

ELCHE B 2 LANZAROTE 0

Two second half goals for the hosts will automatically make them favourites to qualify for the next round however do not forget Lanzarote have not lost at home for over two years.

At the 5pm kick off temperatures at the wonderful Martínez Valero stadium were in excess of 30 degrees and playing on the biggest pitch in Spain against players all under 23 years of age was always going to be a difficult task for manager Adolfo Pérez´s men.

The first half Lanzarote coped well and whilst Elche´s second team dominated possession very few chances were created.

In the second half as expected Lanzarote began to tire against the younger opposition and concentration began to lapse.

In the 55th minute a cross from the right wing by Iván Agudo found the tallest player on the pitch Nuha who is just a few centimetres short of two metres and he nodded home to give his side a 1-0 lead.

Goalscorer Nuha climbing well above the Lanzarote defence.

The side from near Alicante controlled the match but Lanzarote looked as though they would travel home with just a one goal deficit but in the 88th minute Rojillos midfielder Vladi was caught in two minds on the edge of Elche’s box and instead of having a strike opted to pass.

Substitute Sory not feeling very sorry for Lanzarote by scoring with 2 minutes to go.

The pass was intercepted and Elche broke quick and ended up with striker Sory with a one on one against Lanzarote´s player of the year Agoney, Mr dependable produced a fine save and whilst Lanzarote players chased the ball to clear, Elche got to the ball first and crossed it to the far post where sub Sory had an easy tap in to give his side daylight to bring to Lanzarote next Sunday.

Another fine display from Lanzarote’s player of the year, Goalkeeper Agoney.

The return match in Lanzarote has been confirmed for Sunday 29th May at 5pm kick off. Tactics from both sides will be simple, Lanzarote will have to be careful not to concede an away goal but you can expect to see an attacking display from the home side whilst the visitors will be content on soaking up the pressure and hitting their opponents on the break with the immense pace their strikers possess.

Elche B won 20 games, drew 9 and lost 9. Their football ground is around a 30 minute drive from Alicante airport. There are no direct flights from Lanzarote to Alicante or Valencia so the route will probably be via Madrid or Las Palmas.

The first leg of the match will be played away in Elche on either the Saturday 21st or Sunday 22nd of May (time and date to be confirmed). The return home leg will be played a week later at time and date to be confirmed.

For those interested in coming to the away match, let me know and follow this post. Don’t forget residents can obtain a 50% flight discount as long as you get your travelling certificate (Certificado de Viaje) from your Town Hall. (Ayuntamiento)

C.D. ATLÉTICO GRANADILLA 0 LANZAROTE 4, 15th May 2016,

The Rojillos ended the league season with an emphatic win led by their captain Rosmen who bagged a hat-trick. This guarantees a second placed finish so Lanzarote will now have the advantage of playing a side that finished in fourth spot with the second leg to be played at home.

Starting 11.

Lanzarote had many chances in the opening half hour to score with Mauri and Rosmen both coming close. The leagues bottom club already doomed to relegation did well defensively early on but could not keep the score goalless which could have given them hope for the second half.

The breakthrough came in the 39th minute when Miguel Gómez´s exquisite cross field pass released Toñito , the winger beat his defender and his pinpoint cross was headed home by the clubs leading scorer Rosmen to calm the nerves of his players with the 0-1 lead.

Mauri, Ruyman and Agoney.

Lanzarote knew that a win in Tenerife for them would guarantee a second placed finish; failure of this would allow both Las Palmas B and SD Tenisca to leapfrog Lanzarote who could have finished the season fourth.

Now with a goal to the good Lanzarote could play more controlled football and seconds before half time doubled their lead when Toñito was tripped just inside the box and the ref had no hesitation in awarding a spot kick. Rosmen thrashed the ball down the middle to give the Rojillos a comfortable 0-2 lead to take into the break.

Miguel Gómez and Javi Melián.

In the 68th minute Toñito picked the ball up on the left and beat his defender and fired wide of the Tenerife keeper to make the game safe with a 0-3 advantage.

Louis Kennedy came close to adding a fourth but his effort struck the woodwork however in the 77th minute Rosmen completed his hat-trick when he surprised the keeper with a powerful strike from the edge of the box to confirm the 0-4 rout.

Rosmen claiming his match ball.

Lanzarote finish the season in second spot with just three defeats all season and increasing their home supremacy now making it 40 league games without defeat.

As it panned out Las Palmas B could only draw and Yaiza did a great job on Tenisca in a 1-1 draw. Gran Canarian side UD Villa Santa Brígida are champions following a brilliant second half to the campaign and won by a mighty six point gap.

Lanzarote head into the playoffs and will find out who their opponents are with the draw taking place Monday at 4pm.

LANZAROTE 3 UD IBARRA 0, 8th May 2016,

The Rojillos finished their final home league match of the season with an impressive win and in doing so have made it two complete seasons without defeat on home soil.

Rosmen firing in the first.

More importantly this win lifts Lanzarote into second spot and as long as they win next Sunday away in Tenerife versus bottom club Atlético Granadilla then they shall remain second. This will give the Rojillos a lower placed side in the playoffs and also the second leg will be played at home.

The Rojillos looked intent on scoring from the very beginning wanting to end their run of two games both ending scoreless.

UD Ibarra had begun the season well and for several weeks were league leaders before slipping away early in the New Year and are now mid table. In the early part of the match the Tenerife side kept a well organised defence and were a constant threat on the break.

In the 16th minute a one two with Rosmen and Toñito allowed the latter a strike at goal but the keeper did well saving with his feet.

The Rojillos Mister consistent, goalkeeper Agoney, produced a good save in the 32nd minute when an effort was bound for the top right hand corner but the Lanzarote number one made no drama with the save as many a lesser keeper would have.

Two minutes later and striker Mauri typified his season by closing down a defender on the left wing and winning possession of the ball which he had no right to, the Colombian immediately fed his captain Rosmen who turned a defender and from eight yards walloped the ball home into the right hand corner to give his side a 1-0 lead.

Five minutes before half time the visitors had a great opportunity to level the score, a ball was whipped in from the left wing but from six yards Ex Real Madrid player Sandro could not wrap his foot around the ball so his effort sailed over the crossbar.

Only three minutes into the second period and Toñito tripped striker Balduino in what he thought was just outside the area however the ref viewed this differently and pointed to the penalty spot.

Striker Manzi stepped up and shot low into the left hand corner but Agoney got a strong hand on the ball producing an excellent save and just conceded a corner kick.

The Rojillos had had their warning and now played with much more intensity. In the 55th minute defender Miguel Gómez broke down the left and released Rosmen, the tall striker fed Toñito and from the edge of the area the Lanzarote winger let rip only to see his effort come off the meat of the left hand post and away to safety.

Toñito causing problems all afternoon for the Tenerife defence.

Two minutes on and Rosmen again forced the keeper into a good save from a shot just inside the area as his side piled on the pressure.

On the hour mark the gutsy Mauri broke down the left wing and was held and almost rugby tackled by a defender though the ref intelligently played the advantage but the strikers cross was cleared. So much has been said about the poor refereeing over the season but today’s man in the middle Señor Jiménez did allow the game to flow and only brandished three forced yellow cards however it was a surprise that he did not then give a yellow to the culprit of the rugby tackle when the play had stopped, this was a minor blemish on an immaculate game played by him and his assistants.

A good afternoons work for the man in the middle Kevin Jiménez Velázquez.

A clever pass by Marcos Cabrera in the 66th minute allowed Toñito to do what he loves doing, attacking his defender. The veteran winger flew past the static defender and was completely uprooted making it an easy decision for the ref to blow for a penalty kick. Rosmen thrashed the ball down the centre to give his side breathing space with a 2-0 advantage.

With 15 minutes remaining sub Javi Mélian was clearly upended in the penalty area but the ref with the whistle in his mouth ready to blow waited that vital second and Mauri latched onto the vacant ball, rounded the keeper and fired into the net for a well deserved personal goal and a more reflective score line of 3-0.

A goal for the hard working Mauri.

The Lanzarote defence remained firm all afternoon and with January signing Acai refusing to be second best to any ball in his vicinity the Tenerife strikers ran out of energy and ideas.

Stalwart defender Acai showing his appreciation to the fans.

Lanzarote had done their job and now waited to see what was happening with Las Palmas B away versus Tenerife B. There is no love lost between these two clubs and as the game headed into the 90th minute with the score 2-2 it looked as though Las Palmas B had that point to keep them in the driving spot for a second placed finish.

An excellent season from defender Raúl.

In the final minute of the match Ex Las Palmas player and native Ale Pipo who had been released by Las Palmas last season after he had suffered a cruciate ligament injury popped up with the winner. With that goal he replaced his old club with Lanzarote who are now in the driving seat for that all important second placed finish.

Gran Canarian side UD Villa Santa Brígida are Champions with their six point lead at the top but Lanzarote cannot take anything for granted as they could still end up in fourth spot as there are just two points between second and fourth place. Las Palmas B look good for three points next week as they host lowly but safe CD Marino whilst Tenisca are away versus our southern friends Yaiza.

The draw for the playoffs takes place on the 16th May with the first match being played on the 22nd May and the return leg a week later. We will have to wait till next Sunday to see what position Lanzarote finish in.

Whilst an away draw against the leagues fifth placed side on paper looks good the Rojillos were desperate for a win to keep on the trail of league leaders Santa Brígida who had won the previous evening.

Lanzarote remain in third spot but are now three points away from second placed Las Palmas B and a whopping 6 points behind the league leaders with just two games to go.

The Rojillos will now need a minor miracle to finish top and qualify for the Copa Del Rey but should Santa Brígida lose both their remaining games and Las Palmas B take no more than three points in their last two games then there is a chance.

Lanzarote are at home this Sunday and home form suggests that all three points is possible then the following week they are away against the bottom club Atlético Granadilla who are the whipping boys in this league having already conceding 98 goals in their 36 games played to date. If this happened then Lanzarote would finish level on points at the top but would win the league on goal difference.

I did say a minor miracle was needed but if you don’t believe in miracles then you have not seen who has won the English Premiership undoubtedly one of the hardest leagues in world football to win. Hats off to Leicester City!

This may have been Lanzarote´s second consecutive scoreless draw however Rojillos manager Adolfo Pérez set up an attacking formation against a side still harbouring possibilities of a playoff finish.

The game was played at a good pace with both sides creating opportunities and looking to claim all three points. As ever goalkeeper Agoney put in another commanding display.

Late on sub Javi Melían struck the post and Captain Rosmen headed wide when you would have put your mortgage on him scoring.

If Lanzarote can avoid defeat in their last home league match of the season next Sunday 8th May at 12 noon versus mid table side UD Ibarra then they would have gone two complete seasons without a home defeat.

LANZAROTE 0 UD CRUZ SANTA 0, 24th April 2016,

Lanzarote have now qualified for the playoffs for Segunda B (League 1) for the second year running but failing to win against the league´s second from bottom club will not be how they would have liked to celebrate.

Sunday’s line up.

The Rojillos were desperate for all three points as league leaders Santa Brígida and second placed side Las Palmas B had already played the evening before. The in form Santa Brígida cruised to a 3-0 home win against 14th placed side Unión Viera whilst Las Palmas B dropped two points in a goalless draw against 15th placed CF Arucas.

All this means that Lanzarote´s chances of finishing top and qualifying for the Copa Del Rey (F.A. Cup) next season have been dealt an almighty blow. UD Villa Santa Brígida are now four points clear of the Rojillos with just 3 games remaining.

Man of the match Vladi.

Las Palmas B remain one point ahead of Lanzarote and finishing second does give you a so called advantage of playing one of the weaker teams in the playoffs with the away Leg first.

The game itself was pretty much how this report is written, disappointing! Some described this game as the worst performance of the season but in true honesty those people are just disappointed. The Rojillos completely dominated the match with two good penalty shouts turned down and a super Miguel Gómez strike flying off the woodwork. It was one of those games that just was not going our way.

Even Antonio gave up abusing the officials.

The visitors defended with brutal force at times and did exaggerate a lot of injuries however the ref did account for seven minutes added on time though the Tenerife side did their job well of stop, starting play and were good value for their point. I doubt if that single point will do them any good as they are seven points from safety with three games remaining and are doomed to relegation.

This has been a great season; very rarely do you see a bad home performance and the Rojillos have increased this spectacular record of theirs to 39 games since tasting a home defeat.

Maureen and Gordon Waddell as loving life.

The playoffs are secured and we all know that there will be a big crowd for the first home playoff match. The atmosphere will be electric, the vocal support of the foreign fans has got louder which is hugely appreciated by the Conejeros (locals, rabbit hunters) and this has seemed to have spurred them on for a song or two. However you make yourself heard it doesn’t matter, just do it as loudly as possible as perfected by Simon Gibbs and his band of merry men.

Next week the Rojillos have a tough away match in Tenerife against fifth placed side Las Zocas and a week later will be the last home league match of the season versus UD Ibarra.

Shortly we will be able to vote for Player of the Year and voting will take place on Facebook (Lanzarote football club) in the next few days.

CD SANTA ÚRSULA 3 LANZAROTE 2,

16th April 2016,

It has been an awful weekend for the Rojillos, they began as league leaders and by Sunday 2pm they were in third spot.

Second placed Santa Brígida and third placed Las Palmas B both leapfrog Lanzarote who now trail top spot by two points with four games remaining.

All started great for the league leaders as they found themselves 0-1 up in only the third minute with another great left foot strike from the edge of the area by Miguel Gómez.

The Tenerife side levelled 10 minutes later when the Lanzarote defence was caught napping and midfielder Juanqui tucked the ball home.

Both keepers were kept busy in a fast moving game. Rojillos keeper Agoney scrambled away an outrageous volley from inside his own half by midfielder Guti, shortly after the Lanzarote players and bench were outraged when midfielder Marcos Cabrera was through on goal and was pulled back, the Rojillos were certain they were going to be awarded a penalty which in turn would have given the ref no option but also to have red carded the last defender. The official chose to let play continue as the visitors felt hard done by.

Five minutes before the break and Miguel Gómez crossed and found Mauri, the Colombian then beat his defender and lifted the ball over the keeper to give his side a 1-2 advantage to take into the half time break.

Mauri had an opportunity to increase the score just after the interval but then the home side gained in confidence by winning possession and seeing more of the ball.

In the 66th minute Guti laid on the ball to Juanqui from an indirect free kick and the midfielder fired through the wall from the edge of the area to bring the score level at 2-2.

Ten minutes from time it was horror for Lanzarote as the ref gave a penalty to the home side for a foul by Miguel Gómez. Sub Nauzet fired the spot kick to give his side a 3-2 win and start a dreadful weekend for the Rojillos.

Santa Brígida are now top with 69 points following a very good 2-4 away win versus 6th placed side CD Cotillo and Las Palmas B have moved up to second on 68 points with a tough home win versus fifth placed UD San Fernando. Lanzarote remain on 67 points after suffering just their third loss of the season.

This Sunday the Rojillos are home versus second from bottom UD Cruz Santa. Lanzarote must make it 39 home games since defeat but also five home wins on the bounce. Leaders Santa Brígida host lowly Unión Viera whilst Las Palmas B are away in a local derby versus CF Arucas.

GOALS

0-1 min 3 Miguel Gómez

1-1 min 13 Juanqui

2-1 min 40 Mauri

2-2 min 66 Juanqui

3-2 min 80 Nauzet (penalty)

10th April 2016,

The Rojillos return to the league summit after a six week absence following an outstanding first half display against the eighth placed side UD Telde.
Prior to the match manager Adolfo Pérez had invited 10 of their foreign fans to join the squad for breakfast at the Sands Beach resort in Costa Teguise. A good touch from Lanzarote´s longest ever serving manager.

Lanzarote foreign supporters joining Adolfo and his squad for breakfast at Sands Beach Resort

Lanzarote began the match with a spring in their step and were totally dominant from as soon as the ref whistled for the start of the match until he blew for half time.
The Gran Canarian side just could not get out of their own half as the Rojillos midfield governed by Vladi and Javi Betancort were closing down their opponents, forcing errors and regaining possession the instant it was lost. Mauri and Toñito were a constant nightmare for the defenders on either flank whilst Rosmen was winning everything in the air and constantly making off the ball runs.

An army of mascots about to join the players for the team photo

In the 16th minute Rosmen leapt towards the sky and perfectly angled his cushioned header into the path of Toñito, the veteran winger had one touch then struck the ball with venom into the left hand corner from 15 yards to send his side into a well deserved 1-0 lead.

Toñito volleying home the first goal

Only two minutes later and Toñito was at it again. This time he cut inside his defender on the left wing and from just inside the box fired in a curling drive which the keeper did superbly well by getting his fingers onto it and tipping over for a corner.

The second goal was inevitable. In the 25th minute Toñito put a through ball down the middle and Rosmen left his defender for dead on a diagonal run and slipped the ball under the advancing keeper to give his side daylight with a 2-0 advantage.

Ayoze Pérez back to his best

Attacking midfielder Ayoze Pérez, built stocky with the bald head and wearing number seven rejoined Lanzarote in January after a few years out, playing in Germany for a season and then training Puerto Del Carmen juniors as well as playing for their Regional team. He has had to readjust to a faster pace and also lose a few pounds but anyone who has seen this lad play will tell you he is special and has a shot that is so hard and accurate that he will definitely score goals.

It was Ayoze who is now well trimmed and fully up to the pace of a higher level of football that was the next player to be put through down the centre. It seemed as though he timed his run to perfection though the linesman raised his flag for offside in what must have been a marginal decision before he tucked the ball home thinking that he had extended his sides lead.

In the 33rd minute Rosmen chased down the keeper and won possession, he then back heeled the ball to Toñito who immediately fed Mauri on the right wing but with the keeper in no man’s land the Colombian striker saw his goal bound effort get blocked and diverted for a corner kick.

The future is looking good for the Rojillos

The only disappointment for the first half was that the game was not dead and buried. Anyone who has played football knows that a 2-0 lead can turn into a nightmare if the opposition score the next goal. A true reflection of this first half should have been a four nil lead.

The Gran Canarian side came out for the second half with far more enthusiasm but still failed to get a strike on target.

<img aria-describedby="caption-attachment-1937" loading="lazy" class="wp-image-1937 size-full" src="https://mercancialanzarote.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/Pretty-in-pink.-A-couple-of-boys-enjoying-their-2-Euro-Steak-and-cheese-roll-layered-with-garlic-sauce.jpg" alt="Pretty in pink. A couple of boys enjoying their 2 Euro Steak and cheese roll layered with garlic sauce

Lanzarote´s life was made much easier in the 56th minute when striker Miguel Ángel was shown a red card after a tussle with centre back Fran Gil.

The Rojillos were always in full control of the game but did not find their third goal until added on time at the end of the match.

Louis Kennedy had shaken off an ankle injury and was on the bench was given 20 minutes to prove his fitness. He won the ball in midfield and had broke through the centre, as a challenge came in the British boy sensibly teed the ball to his captain Rosmen, who chipped the keeper from the edge of the box to add a more justifiable final score of 3-0.

This was an emphatic performance by Lanzarote which will hopefully put them in good stead for the final five matches.

The big game of the day was Santa Brígida (1st) versus Las Palmas B (3rd). The 0-0 score line could not have been better news for Adolfo Pérez´s men and all that follow Unión Deportiva Lanzarote.

The Rojillos are one point clear of Santa Brígida and two points clear of Las Palmas B. Next week Lanzarote are away to 13th placed side CD Santa Úrsula. The Tenerife outfit are a bit of a mix bag. They won four games on the bounce but then have just lost their last three matches.

Las Palmas B has a difficult home match versus the inform UD San Fernando who are putting in a late rally for a playoff spot whilst Santa Brígida have a nasty away match in Fuerteventura against play off hopefuls CD Cotillo.

GOALS
1-0 min 16 Toñito
2-0 min 25 Rosmen
3-0 min 90+1 Rosmen
